    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

Sometimes I look back at all the things I used to think and say and feel that they were silly and immature, that I've grown so much more beyond those ways of believing. Logically that would mean that even now I am still silly and immature and those things I currently think will pass away and be...

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

So tell me why. We may not be in disagreement at all. At least I will be able to see what you mean more clearly and perhaps get an education in the process. :)

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

Kid, you are not even old enough to know what tough is, and as far as debating is concerned you haven't got the chops for it. Most of your posts are riddled with fallacy and immature argument.

They don't, but you have already made up your mind havent' you? I guess your brand of Christianity is tailor made for your own sense of self aggrandizement. Good luck with that kiddo.

    Christian Fundamentalist Terrorist in Oslo

This, although extreme, insane and sick is where the us vs. them kind of thinking leads us. This is why we need to explore the ideas of other cultures and accept that believing one religion or one ideology is better than all others is immature, childish, and at long last destructive. If anyone...

    The Rush To Be Right

Hi InLove, Just wanted you to know that all of us who knew you really miss your energy around here. The peace and love you always brought to your posts was a wonderful balance to the often erudite language people hide their thoughts and feelings behind. I've been trying really hard to be...

    Biblical Innerancy Fallacy

So, any new perspectives to report? Any insights since you and Salty debated this? It was a good thread and if debate serves any purpose it should be to stretch and edify those involved. I particularly like the point of external tradition and purpose of the mystery, there is much more to...

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

Ever read Merton? Brother David Steindl Rast? Even some of the folks round here like Seattle Gal, and Thomas are quite well versed in other religions beside their most beloved Christianity. The fact that these other religions leave you cold doesn't tarnish the light that shines through them at...

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

You know, sometimes I think that to perceive is to be in error in that there is so much more of which to be aware.

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

That wasn't the question you asked, but I can answer this one as well. Quite simply, it isn't. It is never a matter of this over that, Buddhism better than Christianity. Many wonderful Christian writers who loved Christ with all their might read about other religions as well, and found that...

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

I think this is rhetorical, but I simply must ask: Would you sincerely like to know, really and truly? Because if you ask a question like this in the true spirit of inquiry it could lead you to understand many things, and you would grow like corn in the night. Or, you could be satisfied with...

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

I guess you just have to be a geek who enjoys that sort of thing. When I was very young I read Jack London's Martin Eden just for the heck of it, but it stays with me even today.

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

If I have learned anything over the years it is that, if you go seeking something in a text you will surely find it. Very few I have met have found little else. Only a very rare breed can read a text and look for nothing, and then find everything.

    Faith: Belief vs. Knowing

I would be very much interested in hearing about your own practice, the books you like, the historical persons you find inspiring. I find people who can go their own way and not get taken hostage by the group mind very likable. :)
