The Artis Magistra : Looking for Discussion

Welcome @The Artis Magistra I'm a mystic/occultist too (to some degree, lesser so than in the past...but still).

    Religion v. Myth

I tend to hate the word "mythology" because it tries to reduce, ridicule and trivialize the religions of the ancients. The word 'myth' though, in some cases apply well to intentional folklore and allegorical tales. But "mythology", I consider an abhorrent word to refer to ancient religions. I...

Where is the contradiction? (as for "clear book", yet there are many other verses stating: "That (this) is indeed a noble Qur'an, In a Book kept hidden, Which none toucheth save the purified")

The nature of and history of the Qur'an is not flimsy like the Sunni narrative. We believe the prophet was the living, speaking Qur'an. The word (logos) was given to him (like the previous prophets) and the gnosis/irfan he received from Allah (and gnosis of the nature of the Qur'an itself) is...

    DOES GOD LEARN FROM MEN?

No, I don't believe that is the purpose of prayer either.

    DOES GOD LEARN FROM MEN?

    Not in my religion.

    DOES GOD LEARN FROM MEN?

That would be those 'other religions' I referred to, like Trinitarian Christianity and Vaishnavism etc. No, I don't believe God has or ever will incarnate as a human. On another aspect; there are theophanies of the divine (which are more archetypal and/or symbolic with a metaphysical...

    DOES GOD LEARN FROM MEN?

Well as God is non-personal, transcendent and not a 'being', it seems irrelevant to ask this notion - of course, I reserve this comment in the awareness that some other religions attribute other qualities to the word "God"

    Hermetic Kabbalah vs Wicca

Can't go too wrong with some Hermetic Qabalah, Hermeticism is a very awesome system condensing neo-Platonic, Gnostic and even Dharmic (sic) ideas into what is very much a universal system (and is still relevant), well assuming you're talking about Hermes Tris..not some of the modern stuff...

In my mind: Syncretic is combinding aspects of different religions/traditions/philosophies together. (I take on certain Dharmic practices) Universalism is more in the direction of a unification of separate parts (which I also hold to), while not necessarily believing all of it on the same...

    The Belief O Matic

I got......Jainism o_O I like Jainism but that kind of surprised me, after that in the list was: Hinduism Liberal Quakerism o_O (huh?) and Islam :D (my religion) I guess because I'm a "Sufi" (keep in mind all that I mentioned about it recently) aspects of it related to Jain thought. (well...

    Sister Sinead

No, (and) it's a good place to start (gives you a place to rationally think things out and weigh things in context) but if you're going to pick a 'sect', the philosophical one that promotes intelligence is obviously the far better one spiritually, mentally and emotionally. (this is aside from...

    DOES GOD LEARN FROM MEN?

I believe this is the case, whether talking about what it says in the Qur'an or Hindu, Buddhist and Gnostic texts and pagan traditions, it's quite a consistent belief.

    sufi mysticism

Also, my favorite one: "He who calls himself a Sufi is not a Sufi" One of my favorites. Hence why I try to not refer to myself as such (even though I'm a 'mystic'), I'm just a Muslim. (although I did mention "part-sufi" in my intro post) The identity of the Sufi is a thoroughly Islamic...

Tackling Violence Committed in the Name of Religion

I think it's (religion) definitely used as a political tool (so is "religious discrimination", not that it's some non-existent thing)

Tackling Violence Committed in the Name of Religion

When you say "religious violence", you've got to stand back and look at what is actually fueling the violence. It's easy to pin it on a religion as a whole, rather than a specific ideology (political or religious, usually in opposition to religious norms) and the way an ideology spreads.

    Perennial Philosophy and Islam

Tawid: The absolute, transcendent oneness of G-d, above and unlike any of it's creation, non-deity (or anti-deity) anti-anthropomorphic, a God of perfect unity.
