Hasidic star Matisyahu mixes it up on new album

Labels apply to candy bars, not to people. I consider myself observant.

Hasidic star Matisyahu mixes it up on new album

hey. long time no see. I just spent a Shabbaton in Crown Heights. I love and adore the Chassidim, but I don't consider myself and my beliefs to be exactly like theirs. They're nevertheless observant Jews with their own specific flavour and customs.

Hasidic star Matisyahu mixes it up on new album

A probably the only person on here that has actually met him, I have to say that although he's a great artist, I didn't get the impression he's really into the whole Orthodox/Chassidic and does it more for carreer reasons, while having some doubts and questions about their beliefs.

Happy Shavuos to those who observe it

"Why would you come into a Jewish sub-forum and lecture us about Christianity and Islam ? How much have you studied these religions ? " Let me tell you for a fact that I have more of an intimate understanding of these religions than you think. If you wish to think up all sorts of judgements...

Happy Shavuos to those who observe it

It's not meant such, I was only staking Judaism's claim to being a true religion, not THE true religion, superior to all others. I don't see what is wrong in making this comparison with the other Abrahamic faiths.

Happy Shavuos to those who observe it

What I'm saying has been said before, but bears repeating: The revelation of the Torah at Mount Sinai is what sets Judaism apart from other faiths. In many of the other religions, revelation involved people gathering around a charismatic individual who experienced dreams or visions in...

Happy Shavuos to those who observe it

Then you're obviously unaware of how deeply many of us feel about supporting the refound homeland that others with to destroy. I took it down because it had nothing to do with 'interfaith', not because there was anything remotely wrong with it.

    Reform

Shalom aleichem, I think Interfaith dialogue is an interesting activity to engage, if enjoyed with caution and occasional restraint. It allows people to see other sides of the same coin. That's the short answer. The longer answer begs a more precise question. :)

Happy Shavuos to those who observe it

It seems as if Shavuot is the holiday that is most neglected some times. I remember talking to a non-observant Jew about the holidays, when she said 'yeah I know that one and that one, but what's this one?' It's partially a symptom of having (relatively) few obligations.

    The Song of Songs

All streams of Judaism use the Song of Songs. The traditional (Orthodox) interpretation of the text is that its an allegory of Hashem's love for the Jewish people and His covenant with them. If you have the chance to look at an Artscroll Chumash, you'll see how heavy the commentary is in there...
