-To resemble the perfect God. Before marriage we are only half, male or female. We can become one in the image of God.

-To perfect love. Our Love is perfected through our spouse. Our partner becomes the owner of our sexual organ.

-To complete God's love. God can complete His love through His children and creation. We are His body, the objects of His love

-To multiply God's love through our children. Through our descendants we can live for eternity on the earth.

-To expand our love by experiencing the 4 realms of heart: children's love, sibling love, conjugal love and parental love

How do you define marriage? Living together; signing a civil document; spiritual ceremony?

It is all of the above

Since we are spiritual beings, the union of a man and a woman is not just physical. It is also the union of their spirits.

Marriage for me is eternal. It is also the union of 2 blood lineages (2 different ancestries). It is a public event celebrated by our own parents and families.

Marriage is a unique union under the law that bring the both halves of humanity together. It can create life (fruits of our love). Under the commitment and responsibilities of marriage children can be raised by their own father and mother that love each other.

Society greatly benefit by the existence of healthy families. The cost of family breakdown is in the hundreds of $ billions per year.

In the perfect world soeil, this is true, but alas our world is not so perfect.

i use to believe as you do.
then i grew up , failed in relationships, had children, (not necessarliy in that order), but i never married, because i knew deep down that if i did marry it would be forever.
then, i fell in love, different from before, because this time, I had GOD with me. so, maybe i still do believe as you do.
This time I am getting married. And I have never been more sure or happy.
(i just wanted to share)

So the world is perfect afterall :p

Perfection is a state of mind. I remember a taoist phrase that I read somewhere, it went something like "for a heavenly minded man, everything under heaven is heaven".

What more can anybody ask for ....... cheers to your "finding" :).

The more you thank God for a blessing, the more he blesses you with it (Dont take it literal, sometimes one is enough :D)

Thanks for sharing. I think it is deeply in our God DNA to find someone to love and become one for eternity.

This idea of until death only came after the human fall

Hmmm Soleil, its true, it was only opening up my heart to God that I found LOVE. Its all about timing tho, too. Cos, I had always been brought up hearing and learining about God but it never really sunk in until then. Strange, life is strange, and wonderful.

Greymare, we do grow and mature. If we truly believe in God, it is normal to have Him part of our life even our most intimate moments.

God's love is completed in the divine union of a true man and true woman.

With God there is no room for shadow. It is like under the sun at noon.

No, marriage is the preliminary for the final union. Man and Woman are an interesting design. One "typically" is the dominant, while the other is the "submissive", yet both can not function correctly without the other, and tables turn within the relationship as needed.

However, it is a "lesson" to be learned for the future, wherein mankind, becomes united with God. And that union is so intense, it is off the charts.

It is not a "physical union" perse, but rather a union of being, and energy, and thought, and emotion, and Love...

Though extremely important is marriage between humans, it is a stage setter for what is to come...

yin/yang as beautiful as it is powerful, is but a shadow of the perfected union we will have.
