This site ROCKS!

Yes, this is a good conversation site. Naturally I found it--eventually. Of course, I rarely challenge people's claims directly. Its too much work, and most people reserve their comments either to: 1. Things that require specialist knowledge 2. Things they know everything about 3. Things that go bump in the night

1. How can you challenge an expert on their own turf?
2. Um. Wow I did not know that! Would you like to buy some doughnuts so my scout troop can go to Space Camp?
3. Uhh...none of my business

Would you like the translation?
Uh oh. He offered to translate. Is vocabulary for cheetas? Do abecedarians eat guacamole? Tune in next week for another exciting episode of: "What Will Wil Say Next?"

ah come on....abecedarian insult...an insult where each word is in alphabetical order.

Cheetas would be thrid on an abecedarian animal list and they'd eat guac 7th...

This is a good forum; nice forum divisions and so on. Nice forum software as well.

But what I've experienced in terms of freedom of speech, thats a little disappointing. Eventually the forum will mature in that area and freedom of speech will be allowed to let people discuss all aspects of a religion without personal attacks.

Its easy to tell people to stop discussing conflicts and harder to let them discuss freely while disallowing personal attacks.

So I'd say: form some clear rules of discussion, let people discuss what they want and keep personal attacks away.

According to Alexa.com, the website interfaith.org ranks 555,000 in the traffic ranks. So like most websites its a small website with a small group of people looking at it and even a small group taking part in the forums.

I might hang around for a little bit more but that will be it. I'll let the few Muslims here who defend Islam take over and be happy. Wil will also be real happy.

Hi there. In the time I've been here there's been quite some changes. It used to be heavily used by Christians, mainly Americans. These days there's a lot less posting. A lot have moved on or don't post too often. New blood that hung around might be needed...

Snoopy.

Yea, I can see its needed. There's a lot of people defending Islam here. Whatever people wanna do I guess.

Interfaith is about finding commonalities and exploiting them to create an environment where we can all live together.

It is not about finding issues with others religions and denying them post after post.

IIf this is what you wish to continue to do, seems like there may be 550,000 forums more to your liking.

Are mods arbiters of who should stay around? I see all sorts of criticism on here, including of Roman Catholicism. Or is it different for established members and mods? Was Tao always so positive?

No wonder this forum is so stuck in the doldrums.

I was not always so positive no. Some things never change.

2011 is upon us... look what we are facing.... do I have any cause or justification for being positive? Politics now has not even the veneer of democracy, the world is run by mafia style gangs. Islam spreads like a cancer. China arms itself to the back teeth, climate change is systematically ignored. War and civil unrest is on the increase. Our natural resources and wilderness continue to deplete alarmingly. But you can only be 'nice' here to the fanatics who ignore truth in favour of some ridiculous placebo for all the misery.... all homage to the narcissists!

Oh hello. I was not making a criticism of you, I was pointing out that what was OK for one poster should be OK for all, new or established.

Before you go, try actually winning an argument.
Oh I've won a lot of times. More people are learning why Islam is a barbaric religion. Now I've made you say it yourself that you dont believe in the Quranic punishment of theft (cutting off hands and feet).

I've won by talking about Banu Qurayza. Simply talking about Islam is a win automatically because all you need is to talk about the wrong things in Islam and then you just sit back and repeated failed attempts to defend it.

Muslimwoman says the word in 4:34 does mean "beat". I'll consider you've won if you can change her mind and convince her that it doesnt mean beat. Good luck!

I agree with Snoopy's comment and objection. I dont know who made you mod, but I'm pretty sure you're a Muslim.

Interfaith is all about "things and discussions between different faiths". That covers it all.

Wil, please stop trying to tell people they cant criticize Islam.

Surprises me all the time ...

God bless all,

Thomas

Uh, that's really absurd, as you would know if you knew Wil at all. But that's the beef that people have had with you, that you were completely unwilling to take some time to get to know who you're dealing with before you start heavy blasting.

So why does he have a problem with me posting comments that are critical of Islam? Since we met he's been on my case. He even held back my reply to Muslimwoman and I had to post it again. Thats how we started out. All that made me think he's a Muslim or something.

He shouldnt discourage people from posting critical comments about Islam.

"People" havent had a beef with me. Its only Wil and the few muslims on this board.

So why does he have a problem with me posting comments that are critical of Islam?
No, he had a problem with you refusing to comply with the rule that you settle in to the community first before you start posting long broadsides with links. We have had lots of trouble with people who come in here just wanting to push their own stuff and not dialogue with anyone. The rule was to test whether you are one of THOSE, and so far it appears that you are.

I don't think you have made a single friend here.

Oh I've won a lot of times.

repetition doesn't win arguments...

effective counter arguments win arguments

Now I've made you say it yourself that you dont believe in the Quranic punishment of theft (cutting off hands and feet).
I said it doesn't need to be applied today. And if you think you "made me" say it, don't flatter yourself. It's a position I've held for a long time.

I've won by talking about Banu Qurayza.
This is exactly your problem. You think you "won" merely by "talking" about a subject.

Simply talking about Islam is a win automatically
see above.

because all you need is to talk about the wrong things in Islam and then you just sit back and repeated failed attempts to defend it.
Yea, that head in the sand picture really was perfect for you.

Muslimwoman says the word in 4:34 does mean "beat". I'll consider you've won if you can change her mind and convince her that it doesnt mean beat. Good luck!
You're ignoring the fact that I don't care if it does mean "beat" literally. It doesn't affect anything. You would know this if you were capable of understanding the issue.
