Now I'm just not thinking we should wait until 7-15-2113.

I'm thinking we should be planning for 7-15-2010, and 11, and 12 so we can make 2113 a suitable 10 year anniversary bash!

So as I see it it could be locals, by continent, or even regionals, to get the ball rolling....but we should start thinking about making the Ides of July a concept in motion.

Now whattya think all?

How far would you be willing to travel next July to spend a few days with folks you've been yammering online with?

What would a IO get together look like.

Now I know there will be a variety of foodstuffs, cakes and brownies and libations...but should there be a:

cocktail party
pool party
games
discussion groups
presentations
potluck

what would your vision of an IO physical event be like...

(it is less than one year away)
 
I reckon...... If you got everyone together.... And this is an area, which would be serving alcohol.... then I'd wager fights lol. It is bound to get into religion talk.... And well you know how those chats tend to end... But some alcohol fueling the debates lol It could be amusing to watch..... Or, it would go to the other extreme... And that wouldn't be fun at all to watch :/
 
I have to presume Wil that the only reason you did not list "piss up" is because you include that as a given on any option! I was thinking of visiting the States, it would be a road trip focussing on Yosemite and Yellowstone. There might be a visa issue though, that prevents it. Uncle Sam (or is his name now Bill Patriot? ) does not welcome political activists warmly if at all. That said, if it is a July it fits with the time I'd want to be there and if there were a few of you getting together it may well give me the impetus to commit to a trip.

I think a UK get together would be in Brians court ;)
 
I like the regionals idea. You also want everybody to feel comfortable about coming to the party, not insecure. There is a stranger factor to overcome in this, so you have to break the ice somehow. I think that we should start by having a girls only get-together, since they are the most skittish and generally the best and most obsessive party planners. Once they get together they can decide on how to plan a bigger get-together for everybody. If they won't do it, then we can take it from them and come up with a second-best party to invite everyone.
 
I like the idea of a regional get-together, but I think I'm the only New England resident around these parts.
 
If we wanted a geographically centralized location in the US, I guess we would all have to meet over at Earl's place in Kansas. (Does it rain a lot during July in Kansas, like it does in Iowa and Minnesota?)

Oh I'm a western desert rat at heart and I'll take scorpions, gila monsters, and earthquakes over these darned hurricanes, humidity and poison ivy any day.

my two cents would say we need to have something else to see, not as a group, but heck if you are going to make the trip and get together for a few days the rest of the week has to have some great sight seeing opportunities as well.

Tao, nothing against Yellowstone and Yosemite...both incredible I've spent well over a month camping in each, but July is like rush hour downtown London I presume...it is a thoroughly nasty time to visit.

I don't see where the UK is entirely upto Brian....anyone got a big backyard?

Yeh I know they'l be busy but Yellowstone has a pretty narrow window for the kind of good weather I want. Anyhow its early doors...lets see what develops.

Ok, the party can be in Kansas if it has a wizard of oz theme. Otherwise its a no-go.

Thats hilarious.

You want the girls to organise it, and then maybe you might come along, right? That way you wont be dissappointed if no one shows up!
I thnk it is a marvellous idea, and if i am in the country, ill be there. As for a venue, well? I dont know, the USA is a big place, im sure there is somewhere we could all go to, without too much upset. But then again, you lot could all come over here, to Oz. If you could stand the heat, LOL>

Crap, that didn't work.

I personally don't see it an issue...but nod in agreement hence my reason for getting this ball rolling prior to the 10 year anniversary...now I just made up that date as that is the date it says I brian joined..

How many of us could lean toward campin? vs. those who think roughing it is a hotel without a spa and room service?
 
I looked at Tao's request...Yosemite and Yellowstone...now if I were to come 6,000 miles I'd hit, the Moab, Bridges, Grand Canyon, Tetons, Sequoia and Monument Valley too...

Now if camping ain't everyone's flavor...on Tao's trip he could make a short side trip to Reno adn we could rendevous there...reasonable flights, cheap hotels...Tahoe a gorgeous alpine lake nearby, Virginia City a silver rush ghost town turned tourist trap, gambling, perfect venue for spiritual folks!

Exact-amundo! Kansas is a good idea, as I could make the drive in 2 or 3 days. I'll probably camp or hotel along the way and stop about 30 times, depending on how many Wal-Marts I pass. Did you know that each and every Walmart is different? You can take it as a sign of the diversity we have here in the USA. You are going to love Walmart, and you can buy all of your camping equipment there.

Umm, Dream baby, unless you all are gonna come over here, cos thats where Wagga Wagga is. I was just there a few months ago. Nice place, tho. I think it might be a little far for some of you to travel, its only a 12hour drive for me... LOL
 
I'd be up for camping. I really wanna see Yellowstone before it blows up, that'd be awesome. Now are we talking camping camping, or bathroom nearby camping? Like still with tents but also with showers and toilets. I like plumbing.

Kansas would be cool too. Closer.
