Today, a topic that came up in conversation was the idea that people....all people, are born handicapped/impaired.
Even those who don't think they are.
Even the brightest and strongest.
It has been said that we utilize only a fraction of our total brain capacity.
(But the brain scientists are still a long ways off from having things figured out.)
But operating on that premise, plus the added idea that come from the fact that by ingesting various stimulating vegetables, people are able to overcome many barriers, psychologically and become more creative and more perceptive and overcome debilitating conditions.
But even this is still just a foreshadowing as various mystics have spoken at length concerning human potential ( I am not even going to begin cataloging them here....you are either aware of this or not, if not, then move along to some other thread).
So what can one do to deal with this situation?
Do you even agree with this, or do you think something else?

Seems like a valid position. Makes sense as far as the idea that the soul chooses to learn about Human life so as to evolve. Its a form of rehabilitation after birth where the body is going through a period of learning how to function properly, and seemingly fully.

There is always room for personal growth, but I would not equate that with being "impaired". To be impaired suggests to me a block of some kind, not simply the possibility of improvement.

I'm with Mark ...

... handicapped? Seems like someone with cerebral palsy or someone who's lost a leg will have something to say when someone says 'well it's all relative, I mean we're all handicapped in one way or another, aren't we?'

I'd rather say we're gifted, we just don't make the best use of those gifts, because they require effort.

I further think that saying one is handicapped might be an excuse for not trying.

Namaste all,

Shawn please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think his point is we are all lacking....don't feel we have access to all that is.

Maybe handicapped or disabled are bad words for what is trying to be described as they touch a nerve with some folks.

But me thinks what he is referring to is that we feel inadequate, and if fully able would have the ability to do so much more.

Now me...I think that is us, we gotta find our lost tribes, we've got to pick up the guantlet, (everything I have done you will do and more). We just ain't living upto potential...

But I do not know if this is an individual fault or a collective fault. I've spoke before about the straw that broke the camels back...and the concept that the entire world is waiting for me to raise in consciousness.

Shawn, I believe the concept is a valid one. Wil seems to also be right in that handicapped may be a bad term to use, if only because of what the words mean to people, and how the use of them affects their perception of the topic at hand.

But we have loads of potential that lies untapped, and unused, and maybe I can put out there my opinion, which is that this is the reason that we are here, (being earth,) as spiritual beings.

To learn, to unlock that untapped potential here in the proving ground, in the spiritual battlefield, to bring over to the other side.

Perhaps, as humanity grows in age and collective wisdom, we will see these as of yet untapped wells of potential manifest themselves into everyday life here in the physical realm.

I believe that is the true test of the growth of humanity. Not in intelligence of our surroundings, but in moral intelligence, and that is what will cause our potential to be realized. I mean, supposedly the equipment is all there. We just need to learn how to use it.

But maybe it'll take a little of both. Maybe neither matters much and it's all a matter of time. Who knows?

Just my two cents. :)

666 as the post number........mmmmmmmmmmmm :D

Yes.
Thanks wil.

666 as the post number........mmmmmmmmmmmm :D
And your post # is 69...... if a 6 were a 9.....hmmm.
coincidence.
This number turns up from time to time, doesn't mean you should start calling me master baal though.

So should I use the word dysfunctional?
Maybe the phrase: "we are not measuring up to our full potential for a variety of reasons"?
I think the terms handicapped as in crippled or debilitated, maybe wizened are useful terms (not as excuses either) and, impaired, as in, there is something which consistently gets in the way of our efforts at improving our lot.
The words have more punch to them and a certain bluntness which is useful I feel.....why pussyfoot around with a bunch of flowery terms when it is so much more direct to get to the point.
Maybe that makes me a barbarian or a Philistine in the eyes of some.
So.!
The problems still remain.
We are supposed to be so intelligent yet to catalog the blunders and stupidities would take days and fill volumes, and that is just the things that went on before breakfast around the globe.
So, my fellow inmates, are we honest enough to recognize our condition or will we continue to be self deceiving and pretend we are so advanced?
The problems need to be solved, but like the drunk who refuses to accept that they have a problem, we carry on thinking we are ok and so the things that need to be done do not get done.
The follies continue.
We all see them repeated daily and served up fresh by the media for our perusal. Then we can complain about them in a variety of forums and bars, etc.
But the problems still remain.
Why?
We are defective.
All of us.
Are we honest enough to see this?
Then maybe we can do something about it.

telekenisis, telepathy, healing, peace....

me thinks we are in 3d to experience the gravity of it all, love, jealousy, envy, etc. the good, the perceived bad and overcome.

as mort (love the grey) indicated.

but it as usual is not uipto us to tell anyone else their faults but pull the log out of our own eye and be the straw.

My point is more that we tend to sugarcoat reality as a whole, and try to paint a rosy picture of a cow flop.

I agree, don't tell your neighbor about the stick in his eye but pull the log from your own, ....sigh....:( but it does need to be brought up from time to time IMO as people tend to forget it is there.
Rosecolored glasses.
And I am including myself in that assessment.
We are all in this together after all....:D

Illusion is for those who can't handle reality.
;)
I hear this phrase from time to time:
"suck it up princess"
&
"if it don't kill ya it will only make you stronger".
Some people need to paint the grim realities a nice shade of pale to handle things.....others are just...well...stronger.
Thing is the strong need to help the weak to become stronger.
The wise need to teach the ignorant,
and so on.
Makes for a better world that way.

Yeah. But are you sure you're fit to judge just how much life can suck? Some people have it tougher than I can even imagine. And I agree that people in better situations should help those less fortunate, but some people's reality is beyond your worst nightmare. And I don't feel I am in any position to tell them they can't have their illusions, their dreams, or denials, because maybe that's the only way that they can make it through the day.

Some people are just pansies, true. But not all people. And maybe the reality of their lives would break those people and not make them stronger. Some things are just too much for anyone to cope with, and there are far worse things than death. So I let people have their rose tinted glasses. For all I know they need them.

Helping people is good. Judging people is bad.
