Do You Know Who Theodosius Dobzhansky Was?

well... i had to double check since i've seen his name as T.G. Dobzhansky... but yeah... i know who he is.

indeed.. it is his definition of biological evolution that i frequently cite for those unfamiliar with the subject.

Yes, that's him. Especially relevant as he was an orthodox Christian writing to promote the scientific view of evolution.

Namaste Lunamoth,

you know.... you would think so, wouldn't you? especially how the nature of the debate tends to polarize along religious lines yet CreationISM adherents would probably denounce him as not a "true Christian"... i know several that i've dialoged with that would do so without hesitation.

leaving aside particular sect fundamentalists, the debate seems to be turning around an axis of gross misunderstanding of what biological evolution is and what it's implication is for human types.

there isn't a single source from which these views emmenate yet there is such a commonality to them that one cannot be dismissive of the inordinate influence that some religious leaders have upon those whom they have chosen to help and their (the religious leaders) lack of education regarding this subject.

yet the idea of biological evolution is well and fine provided we get a vaccine for the H1N1 virus!

the media often chooses fringe elements from both sides as representative views as the sensationalism will generate more sales and thus keep the reporter employed... perhaps there has never existed any form of journalistic integrity in my current arising and i am foolishly naive for lamenting is passing... so i think that the media has it's own share of responsibility for continuing to keep the discussion framed in such a polemical way.

My patience with people who reject evolution on religious grounds has worn thin.

Most of them are ready to say that I'm not a true Christian anyway, so I've decided I might just as well say that they are dead wrong about this, and when this view is pushed into public schools it also harmful.

However, I don't think the root of the problem is lack of knowledge or an inability to understand the basics of evolution. It is not really even about insufficient evidence. The rejection is philosophical, due to incorrect theology IMO. It would take a foundational restructuring of worldview for creationists to accept evolution, not simply education.
