I recently experienced a sudden loss of the sense of taste, so that everything I tried to eat tasted like ... well, like dog poop smells. 2 months I survived on Ensure and V8, hunting for a doctor who could diagnose the problem and find a treatment. (Doctors don't praqctice medicine any more; they practice pharmacy).

Finally found one. If you ever have this problem, check two factors right away:
(1) blood pressure mediction, specifically the procardia drugs (Nifedipine, Nifediac, etc.), which deplete your body's supply of zinc; and (2) your neck vertebrae, which may be cutting off the nerve that controls taste.

Zinc is esential to taste, so a therapeutic dose of zinc was needed in my case to restore the sense of taste.

Howevr, the good news is, in 2 months of an approx. 400 calorie a day diet, I lost 35 pounds...

There is a major difference between taking a "zinc-based" product, which contains numerous other chemicals, and taking pure Zinc. Since taking Zn restored my sense of taste, rather than damaging it, I think the difference is highly significant. I did so on the advice of a graduate nutritionist and had the corroboration of a neurologist.

Lawywers hunting for lawsuits will often ignore factors that might hinder their move toward prosecution.

Thank you so much for posting this! I have a friend who lost his ability to taste sweet about three years ago and had no idea what had happened! I'll forward this info to him--I suspect he will be so grateful! Thank you! :-D
