Let thine eye be single

Let thine eye be single and thy whole body shall be full of Light.
Reminiscent of the third eye chakra, the pineal, singular focus on opening the door to your Christ nature.

Let your perception be complete/whole and you will be enlightened.
The Dali Lama says, "You know you are enlightened when everyone you see, you see as enlightened." So my preacher says, "I go to the mall to see how far I have to go..."

Ah that elusive awareness, but oh the power and presence of those momentary glimpses...its all about stitchin those moments together...closer and closer...

When we see things as they really are..........
When the perceptual filters are removed.........
When the perceptual reducing valve is opened wide...........
When the blinders are taken off..........
When we see completely, that which we normally see only dimly............
When we see the big picture, rather than merely a piece...........
When we see the unity, the underlying harmony, rather than the duality or the chaos.........
That is when our perception is complete.............made whole (single).

Then we have a light which reveals the path and we will know which way to go...we will see the pitfalls before they become a problem.

Matthew 6 King James Bible

22 The light (1) of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light(2). 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light(3) that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
The word evil in Greek is "poneros" which means "hurtful" and is derived from the word "ponos" which means "anguish or pain or toil" which has its roots in the word "penes" / "peno" (to toil for daily subsistence)....starving/needful/poor/distressed.

The word darkness in Greek is "skotos" which means obscurity/shadiness, and it is derived from the word "skia" which means shade or shadow (ie: the darkness of error).

The word light is actually 3 different greek words:
1) "photeinos" = lustrous / transparent / well illuminated
2) "luchnos"- a portable lamp/illuminator (like a candle)
This comes from the root word "leukos" = light or white
3) "phos" = to shine or make manifest, espec. by rays (luminousness)
fire / light
This word comes from the root "phemi" = "to show or make known one's thoughts (speak, say).

So building upon this: the luster of the self is in your perception. When your perception is complete you will be an illuminator.
If you are deprived/starved of perception you will be trapped in error/shadow.
If your thoughts based on your perceptions are in obscurity, then how great is the degree of that obscurity?

Isn't English wonderful?
It reduces meaning and obscures the path and fosters misinterpretation.
So to really comprehend the bible one must read the language the text was written in and do extensive word studies.
There is no other easier way that leads to understanding,
But take the broad and easy path if you must.
Millions of lemmings can't be wrong................can they????

Jesus is clearly not talking about a physical eye, so I think it is an object lesson about the body of believers. Check my logic, but Jesus teaches the body of believers has an eye for truth, however it closes by itself and so must be held open. I think he means truth without love is as useless as a closed eye. James (Jesus' brother) uses a similar anology of a mirror to say the same thing about hearing but not doing (1:25). He says to see the law and retain it within yourself you must be actively taking care of widows and orphans, etc. Similarly in Jesus model, actions hold the eye open for light to constantly pass in. Love is what causes us to see truly -- not discussions about concepts. This is not to say that truth in conversation doesn't exist or isn't important, but that if your eye is opened it is truth and if your eye is closed it isn't truth.

In the above two analogies, it is impossible to judge truth based upon what people say but only by what they are doing and not doing. If I am not mistaken, that is why Christians were told to greet each other 'With an holy kiss' -- to commemorate the importance of love over words. It really does remind me of that phrase 'Namaste', assuming I have a grasp of what it means and assuming I have a grasp of what any of this means.

Psalm 85
10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
11-13 Truth shall spring out of the earth.... Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.

Rom 16:16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light(3) that is in thee be darkness,
how great is that darkness!

Far out. Interesting video Shawn. Someone once told me that much of the court system is technically unconstitutional, because court always adjourns instead of closing. I don't remember the entire argument, however they said that originally courts aren't supposed to accumulate precedents.

The term 'Word magic' was an interesting choice! There is a classic, short, book Language and Myth by Ernst Cassirer which talks about the same concept but calling it 'Language Circles'. This was a book the user Chris China Summercat read, and then I went and read some of it. It was engaging. If you haven't read it then when you're at the bookstore skim the first part. Its a blue Dover book, medium height, and its very thin, like maybe 3/8 of an inch thick.
