Muslims Against NYC Mosque Location

They are quiet, as usual, but some Muslims are not in favor of the 911 Mosque...

Out of millions of Muslim-Americans it's not hard to believe that some hold that position.

Like gay Republicans... it's a testament to our rich diversity.

Furthermore, one can fully understand how some Muslims might look with disfavor on something which prompts Islamophobic vitriol and catalyses the Quahom1's of the world. I'm sure many would prefer to maintain a much lower profile.

You're not gonna get far with this approach. Think about this: what was the Levant doing in Western hands in the first place? Is the Levant part of Europe? Obviously not, so why did the Romans conquer it?

There are two ways you can approach this.

#1: You can apply the good guy/bad guy approach. In which case, you will lose. Because I can just point out that the East only retook what the West took from it. The Levant is geographically, culturally and religiously Eastern territory. Don't forget that Judaism + Christianity (in its original form) are Eastern religions. Is it any wonder the Jews and Muslims of these areas welcomed the Muslims as liberators in the 7th century?

#2: Or you can apply a different paradigm. You can realize that this has nothing to do with anything other than simple geography. Any Mediterranean empire requires the Levant to secure its Eastern Flank. And whoever controls the Mediterranean, rules the region. This is why the East and West have always been forced to fight over this area. If the Asia loses this area to Europe, then Europe can project power deep inside Asia. But if Europe allows Asia to hold the Levant, Asia threatens threaten Europe. That's what it all comes down to.

Think about what happened when the West lost the Levant. Southern Europe was no longer able to hold on to North Africa. This meant they lost the revenues from Egypt + they lost trade options with the Asia + plus they lost naval supremacy in the Mediterranean. The result being that the domination of Europe once again came to an effective end.

But this time, a new development was brewing. All of this set the stage for the rise of Northern Europe. If you are of North European ancestry (especially if you are protestant) you should be thanking the Muslims for retaking the Levant. Historians have gone as far as to state that Charlemagne was a product of Muhammad (pbuh). This is all because of geography.
Not taking sides Code. Simply stated facts as they have been recorded in hisotory's books. Don't care why who did what either. It was several hundred years of blood baths and suffering for those left behind.

LMAOROFPMP....ah, you slay me Jay.

And you disgust me, as do Islamophobia and homophobia in general. But at least you're consistent and transparent.
At least I do not try to make people feel less than themselves...something others seem to enjoy.

I recuse myself, and will speak no more with you.

I think they are allowed to build the mosque in NYC!! It isnt an extrem place of worship, it is a COMMUNITY center for Muslims

there were muslims that died in the towers on 9-11,don't be ridiculous about this. someone got a good deal on a decent building for an islamic center and they're well within legal rights to use it. they're helping the economy by purchasing property and will probably bring traffic to patronize surrounding businesses. to be honest i've heard some things the imam has said and can't say i care for the man but they have the right to build their church. they're using a building thats already there,it isn't like they're building some gargantuan mosque with minarets and loudspeakers.....get over it already.

Its not even a mosque, by deffinition a mosque is something to be used ONLY for religious worship. this building will have a prayer space, but it will mostly provide places for the downtown community to interact with one another. I agree that they can build it.

i'm also sick of the word islamophobia, you dont use the word christophobia when describing radical christian groups....so silly

Oy veh ...

Funniest post I have read in years, I laughed out loud :D thank you

I think I can speak about Islam and those who follow it a bit more accurately then those who only read about it.

Wow and yet I can't as each community of Muslims I have encountered is very different.

The deeper we dig, the thicker the mud gets...

Does this mud explain why you included Jews being expelled from Jerusalem in your comments about the first Crusades? The Crusading armies began slaughtering communities of Jews in Germany and continued to do so through Europe, the Med region and even in Jerusalem itself, where the Jewish community had taken refuge from the Crusaders and were burnt alive when the Crusaders set fire to the synagogue with everyone inside.

You do read some strange history books Q.

i'm also sick of the word islamophobia, you dont use the word christophobia when describing radical christian groups....so silly

So is it silly to use the word homophobia?

A news flash showed briefly: "a Muslim in Iran killed his own daughter after finding that she was about to become a suicide bomber, inspired by Al-Qaeda."

Guess no one heard of this news. And even if they did, for non-Muslims it is something miniscule (spelling?) because the father's actions would be "not enough" in Western fight "against terror."

Nothing Muslims can say, or do, to prove their position against terrorism, because for majority non-Westerners (non-Muslims) it is not really about terrorism....

I've heard that story, and the problem with it is that we really don't know the details. What I hear is that the Iraqi police indeed were looking for her, and the family said she was dead, and when the body was found the father admitted killing her, and gave his version of why, that she was planning to become a suicide bomber. But a more hostile version is that she had a boyfriend in al-Qaeda, and the father did not approve of her having a boyfriend, any boyfriend, and had earlier killed a sister for similar reasons, with no al-Qaeda involvement that time. And of course, that version could be fabrication also.

The problem with news flashes is that they are rarely the whole story. They are often the information we have at this moment... that often changes as more time passes. That and the fact that we are primed to jump to anti-Islamic conclusions makes me suspicious of flashes and longing for patience.

But we do seem to be lacking in that these days.
