Education in Islam

Hello,

what is a Muslim child told when asked, why she or he is not allowed to eat pork or drink alcohol although Christians, who believe in the same God, are allowed to do so?

Thank you very much in advance.

Daniel

Re: Education in Islam

.

wait, let me check the official "What To Tell Your Muslim Kid" guidebook

... here it is

about pork: "Say the same thing the Jews tell their kids"
about alcohol: "tough luck kid, but that's the breaks"

Thanks for your detailed answer, c0de ;-).

Unfortunately, there are no forums, neither Islamic nor Interfaith, where you can discuss Islam in a serious way. Some are used for propaganda, others are strongly moderated and most questions from Non-Muslims are not approved or just no one answers to these questions.

I could conclude that Muslims do not like to discuss in public, either because the members of the forum are no experts in many areas and hence an Iman is the right person to talk to privately or because they don't want to see some questions raised in public or whatever reason. Why does this have to be the case?

Why does this have to be the case?

Have you considered that perhaps there was something wrong with your question? Think about it. Every parent is an individual and has a unique child. So how can there be one generic answer? It can be simple, or really philosophical. It all depends on the relevant factors.

Oh God NO!!!!

You'd think Imams would have a brain in their heads... but you'd be sorely mistaken. Trust me, I've attended countless sermons at mosques. Unless you get lucky and end up finding that rare imam who actually knows what he's talking about, it's pretty fruitless.

Best thing to do: pick up the Quran and do your own reading. After that, whatever opinion you get from any "expert" you can judge for yourself if it is compatible with your understanding of the Quran or not. This is the whole point of Islam dude, it kinda makes you your own pope.

Hi DanielW

If you are a Christian (?) what do you tell your children about eating pork, when clearly Jews (of which Jesus (pbuh) was one) are not permitted to eat pork?

I imagine the answer would include Biblical teachings ... so why would Muslims teach their children anything other than the instructions contained in the Quran?!

The other point of course is a vast majority of Muslim children would never ask the question, they learn Islam from a very young so are fully aware of the wrongs of eating pork or drinking alcohol before they encounter these things in the wider world.

Every parent has their own rules, and it isn't hard to tell them why they have to goto bed at this time, where there friends go to bed another time. Or if a family is vegetarian, or eats fish on friday, or why they can't go see an R rated movie and other kids are...

It really isn't that hard. Are you a parent?

Take a look around, there are plenty of questions here, plenty of topics. And lots of discussion.
