Have you ever been to a medium?

If so, in your experience...

A) They are providing a good comforting service to the other person, but there is nothing supernatural or other wordly in what they are doing.

B) They are fraudsters, praying on the minds of the vulnerable, by selling them false hopes.

C) Some really are probably in contact with the spirit that has passed on.

D) Mediums, imo, are connecting with some sort of spirits, however, they are likely not what they appear to be, and will lie, and mimick the person who has died, in order to deceive...

E) Most really believe they have this special gift, but they are either deluded or self deluded.

I have not been to one, so I can't say. And if I were to want to answer your poll my answer isn't there.

I believe they fit in four categories.

1. Entertainers, hired for shows to do psychic/tarot/palm reading and such, they've been trained in the art and always give folks good news...tis entertainment.

2. Charlatans, out for money and fame and yes taking advantage of folks using the same above training under varioius monikors including televangelists.

3. Those that think they have something....but it is wishful thinking.

4. And I believe there are those that have a connection....but they are few and far between.

A connection with who/what though?

Apologies if wrong, but you are a Christian, I believe.

Almost every Christian that I have spoken to this about, they ridicule and dismiss it (ironic, but there ya go). There are other Christians that I have discussed this with who are pretty much fearful of it - almost alluding to the fact that the medium is connecting to something malevolent....

in Christianity we have something better its called prophecy.

mediums access the psychic realms via familiar spirits Christians access them via the Holy Spirit.

i would stay away from mediums personally not that they are not cable of being accurate but the motive and what is revealed usually bring pain and grief.

"wil"'s is my choice, too. They are of different types, and I agree with his observations, having been to see them, and having been one myself....

A connection to all there is, to oneness,to all knowledge.

Almost being the operative word as to Christians and psychics or mediums.

Next is many more go than will say they go....

Just as there are many Christian adulterers...

Just as the Mafia are Catholics....

One does not need to completely seperate oneself from reality when discussing this stuff.

This is what you think *some* mediums are connecting with - 'oneess/all knowledge'..?

Sorry Wil, that is a touch vague for me.

I shall try to be more direct.

Do you think some mediums can contact the 'spirits' of those who have died?

Havent been to a medium. Although that fella on TV seems to be accurate. (Cant think of his name). Hes young, (30ish), dark hair....doesnt matter.

I have been to "card readers" before. Although they dont profess to be mediums.

No. I believe when we make the connection to the allness we can't quite comprehend it, and we put things between us, our mind makes up stories to bring it into whatever our 'realm of acceptablility' is.

So for some they are channeling some entity, for others contacting the dead, for others the moss faeries spoke to him, or they make up a burning bush...

One thing is almost a given.

Those who are most likely to go see a medium or have their tarot read are likely to be having an issue in one of these areas..

A) A relationship problem
B) Money/work worries
C) A bereavement

In other words, most people only go to see one when they are already feeling a little desperate and vulnerable.

The skillled reader knows this, realises that they have someone willing to pay money to be told generally positive news, and they are going to focus on the parts of the reading that are accurate, and filter out those that are not.

I do believe some readers are very proficient at what they do, but it has nothing to do with any supernatural connection, at all. It is more to do with having the ability to do good cold readings, etc.

Derren Brown illustrates the methods well...

So people connect to the 'allness', and effectively they see things/experience things, as perhaps they wish them to? Be that a vision of Jesus, Mary, aliens, fairies, whatever?

What is this 'allness' that you speak of?

Can it be shown?

Not to you. You are a decided non believer and denier. So anything provided by anyone that can't be categorized, cauterized and sterilized is a non issue and shot out of the sky in your mind.

Science will eventually catch up. Like they did with chakras and meridians and life force...they denied that forever....until they were able to develop the machines that measure it...they still poo poo a lot of what they deem hokum and will continue to do the same until they catch up, and then they'll say 'Oh come look what I found' Accupuncture gives relief for back pain' Doh.

Skepticism is good, nothing wrong with it. Skeptical exploration is better....

Quit asking questions and embrace something for awhile...and then another...and another...and see what resonates

As far as card readers go, I went to one, I even was one for a while. The lady I went to, used just a deck of playing cards, she was at a local saturday market, I deliberatley dressed different to what i normally would, etc, I didnt want to give anything away as it were.... She didnt ask me any questions, just when I sat down, she kindly asked me not to speak. (LOL). It was only about 5 minutes, but she was accurate in everthing she said. (very much so). It was the best $7.00 I ever spent!

My theory is, if you dont "believe" in them, dont go. simple.

On the contrary, asking as many questions as one needs is absolutely critical, BEFORE one embraces anything. This applies more when it is something of life changing importance, of course.

You would not move to the other side of the world, to take that new job, without asking questions, would you?

You would not enter into that business deal, without asking questions, would you?

And, on that same basis, you would not embrace a notion of an 'allness', without asking questions, the answers to which you would have to be satisfied with, would you. Or would you..?

Science will eventually catch up? With whom or what? Religion? I think you might find it has shown to be the other way around, and that theme is likely to continue in the future. Perhaps you spotted the thread in which I placed up a vid of an experiment done to track electro magnetic changes in the brain, that replicate visions of gods, aliens, and out of body experiences? That experiment explains a great deal, imo.

Science aims to demystify things, while, at the same time, concedes that it does not have all of the answers.

Religion relies of keeping things obscure (much like mediums), and claiming to have all of the answers.

It seems you do then?

At least in some of them.

So, with this pack of cards, what do you think she was connecting to?

No I dont, I just wanted to hear what she had to say, and I had a spare $7.00 at the time, It was about 15years ago. For me, I wanted to test her. Just for my own amusement.

I have no idea what she was "connecting" to. I could speculate until Im blue in the face, but as I am not an expert on this, I will pass.
