Hi, I'm new to this forum. I'm very much interested in Spiritualism and Buddhism, but I also personally feel we can take postive things from any religion or faith. I find the more at peace I am with myself the more at peace I am with others. To acheive this I find I need to meditate.

... care to elaborate on this?

I just find the thought behind Spiritualism and Buddhism interesting. Spiritualism has taken a lot from eastern beliefs. What I find myself is that religions say the same thing but with different words, the goal seems to be the same, but the way they discribe the goal is different.
The only problem I have with religion is that most people high up within religions have closed minds. You can learn from anyone with an open mind, but you'll learn from no-one with a closed mind.

I find this exactly opposite. Those innitiates and less in tune to the full nature of their religion have lived by the soundbites of thier faith without full exploration of its depth and breadth....therefor there is a level of close minded ness....but those are not those 'high up'. Those 'high up' have gotten into their faith enough to see a fuller perspective, and often realize their way is not the only way, they don't all express it in public as that is not what they think their people want.

OK thanks. I asked because they seem fundamentally different; Spiritualism being mono-theistic and propounding belief in a soul whereas Buddhism is non-theistic and propounds no belief in a soul.

I can see the message in religions to be the same, basically they want you to do the best you can. To my eyes they differ because they developed in different times and different places with different customs and ideas going a round. They developed in a way so that people with in that time and place could understand the message that was being given. Thats how I view them, others might take a different point of view. It doesn't matter who's right or who's wrong. Thats why we're here.

Namaste P&K (I hope you do not mind this nickname it is fun to type...)

I read something once in a book called "Zen Mind Beginner's Mind" that was very similar and would like to share: If I recall correctly:

For the beginner, the possibilities are endless - for the expert they are few.

Very nice to meet you P&K,

Bhairava
