Lost city of Shambala?

Does anyone have any information on this? Where is Shambala?
 
yes.

it's not a physical location, it's a state of mind which a being realizes.

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama indicates that Shamabala is a Buddhist Pure Land within the human realm that a being can attain to through the proper methods of generating merit and the like.

fwiw, the initial teachings mentioning Shambala are found in the Kalachakra Tantra and thus some schools of Buddhism do not ascribe any particular merit to this teaching.

Maybe we should wait till our inititiation in DC in July to discuss harmony...
 
oh... bizzare. i've heard that they started doing public initiations for some of the Tantras which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me within the traditional context of the teachings. then again, there are plenty of books out there on it so i suppose that it's better to have an official initiation rather than something contrived.

well.. at least H.H. makes the point of being grounded in the preliminary practices or he couldn't imagine what benefit it would have. i can't imagine it either but then it seems like just another commodification of my religion.

It seems to me it is a way for expanded/expanding thought. Sure plenty will seemingly be pearls before swine, but it will all be planting seeds and much will take root, the germination proccess will vary...

But the end result will be thousands touched....and I think a largely increased number of phenomenal individuals with opportunity that only a few had before...

next step will be webinars...
 
unfortunately for me i'm pretty grounded in the traditional method of Tantric praxis which is more of a one on one sort of thing between a teacher and student, as a consequence, i find it hard to properly appreciate Tantric initiations which are given in this manner.

sure... it's a chance for beings that have not heard the Tantra to hear it...however i am not sure what benefit that could possibly have other than as an academic exercise which, if that is the case, seems more like religious voyeurism than anything else.
 
Yes, V, my earlier reading of Tibetan/tantric Buddhism told me it is/was a very much personally guided & transmitted relationship with one's "guru." As I understand it most were informed to engage in preliminary practices until some bit of greater understanding occurred, allowing them to truly begin to grasp-poor choice of words-some of the inner meaning and the guru would typically expect it would start at the "ground floor" literally-10,000 prostrations. ;)earl
