Hi Yisrael, I don't know much about the Bible, but I still want to welcome you to the forum. There are many here who are able to advise you in this I think.

I think there are two or three books you should read in sequence to start off. Read Matthew to learn the story of Jesus and his twelve disciples (skipping the first chapter), but then go much further back and read I Samuel. Every other book in the Bible has some relation to I Samuel, so it will help get you some background. After you read I Samuel, then go further back to read Genesis chapters 1-5 (Creation) then go forward again to read the gospel John, which is a retelling of the gospel but telling the story of Jesus' ministry as a new creation of the world.

I should add that a lot of the books in the 'New Testament' such as Matthew seem critical of Jews, because dramatic self criticism is part of Jewish tradition and the gospels were written by Jewish people. You should not take the criticism in the gospels as a basic description of Jews, because they aren't. Anything you read in the Bible will contain that same self criticism, so just put yourself where Jews seem to be criticized if you can find a way that it applies to you as an individual.
