In another musical thread, (member) radarmark referred to Nina Simone’s recording Bob Dylan songs, and I thought, for those who might like to play, we could post interesting covers, or remakes, here, in this thread. For instance, in this musical clip, a little-known but talented indie band, The Last Town Chorus, slide along their steel guitar and do a slowed, emotionally charged version of Bowie’s “Modern Love.” Here it is:

This, while it might not be transmitted, is the sound of me giving Bjork a standing ovation (and, at the same time, laughing out loud). That was entertaining! I somehow knew that the singer who blew my mind with her song "Regina" (when she was with the Sugarcubes) would not in this case disappoint and she did not.
 
Can we post noteworthily horrible covers that gut the originals? If so, I nominate Judas Priest's evisceration of Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac's Green Manalishi! :eek:

You are shameless! Correction: you are delightfully shameless. It's funny you should say that because, when I first posted The Last Town Chorus's remake of Modern Love, I almost posted your remake of Cat People. I held off, however, on the hunch that you would do exactly as you have -I won't say predictably- done.

I might mention, as well, that, if we want to add a scratch and sniff dimension to this thread by recommending colognes and perfumes to go with the selected pieces of music (though it wouldn't be mandatory, of course), I would suggest, given your addition of vampire vocals, that listeners wear a necklace of garlic before clicking on your scary remake of an already scary Bowie song.

It is worse, but not by far, than Flaming Lips and Cat Power doing a live, mangled, though fun, version of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs:"

Ok, a little background here. Here in Seattle, metal is a tradition. So is good music. So is cheeky humor. As could obviously be predicted, we love to poke fun at the heavy metal fluffs known as Judas Priest.

Here we have a local group, Supersuckers, covering Judas Priest's Breaking the Law, tongue firmly in cheek. :p

To the extent that I ever really did grow up, I did so further down the coast, in San Francisco, with a whole rainbow color of at times decidedly off-color friends, and must here post Lady Gaga’s grandmother (in a metaphysical rather than physical sense, that is, because I suspect that neither of them is capable of bearing children), friend of Bowie, muse of Salvador Dali and glory girl -although that point is arguable- of the ‘70’s (ahem) demimonde, Amanda Lear, doing a remake of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots are Made for Walking.”

(Think of me as Dan Ackroyd doing Leonard Pinth-Garnell, introducing this not as “Bad Ballet,” but, rather, Bad Disco (lol):

Feeling a bit naturally somber, here is Roy Harper’s original “Another Day.” I notice that his lyric, “she offers me, Tibetan tea, on a flower tray,” is reminiscent of Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne,” wherein she “feeds him tea and oranges that come all the way from China” and I would not be surprised if the one lyric inspired the other:

By the middle of December, the constant playing of traditional carols in stores (& seemingly, every where else I go) is enough to drive me to screaming rages. It's become a tradition for me to search out unusual covers of holiday songs & force my loved ones to listen to them at family Christmases.

Here's a reggae cover of "Feliz Navidad" which, in spite of the title, is not done by Bob Marley.

I love the string quartet as a musical vehicle and I also am able to 'get one's rocks off' to Slayer... But I'm not sure about the transposition or execution here...(still, interesting notion)
