Here! Where else?
My cousin went on vacation a few days ago, and had a young girl (20 something) house sit for her while she was gone. Well, the girl was allegedly found beaten to death and wrapped in a blanket in my cousins home yesterday. The detectives suspect the young girls ex-boyfriend as he was seen leaving the home in the victims car. I'm in complete shock. :( When stuff like this hits home it hits hard!

What's this world coming to? :sigh:

My prayers are with all the loved ones and all connected.

But it isn't 'what is this world coming to' the fact that we only know about a few instances like this personally...(without your posting odds are high that none of us on this forum would ever know about this instance)...

Where as 100-200 years ago personal knowledge of mutliple deaths, rapes, of townsfolk and family members would be common.

We traveled to town squares and made it a family picnic of a hanging, brought in some rotten tomatoes and encourged the kids to haze whoever was in the stocks.

We are in the most peaceful era of our existence as humans on earth. Never has there been so little violence and war as there has in the past 50 years... We are rising in consciousness, and while technology, the net, TV, print media, radio, all provide us incessantly whatever gruesomeness they can find to titilate our need for gore....we are fooled by it into thinking that this is an abhorent time. When in reality, we are getting more and more peaceful as time goes on, more and more caring, more and more empethetic.

Yes we've got bigots and homophobes and wars. But just 60 years ago in this nation we had to outlaw segregation...and 99% of gays were in the closet, as they'd get completely ostracized if they came out.

Times they are a changing, and this issue, this occurrance, as awful as it may be, is not an indication that things are getting worse.

I think you are correct, will. The world is changing into something better than before. It's just when something like this hits home, it it hits darn hard, bro. It kinda makes you look at life differently I'm afraid.
