That's Where the Truth is Found

It should be clear....if you follow Christ, you are a Christian. If your bible has two testaments, you are Christian.

But this isn't clear to many...but trying to talk logically to people who don't think logically is like beating ones head against the wall....(if we aren't careful, continuing down that path repeatedly could cause ones brain to become soft like bananas....)

He said he was the light of the world but that those who follow Him as he walked and talked were to become the light of the world. But as you can see nobody has really done that except me, at least from what I have encountered. He wanted those who follow him to deliver the same message as he did.

JN 8:12 "I am the light of the world, no one who follows me shall ever walk in darkness because he will possess the light of life."

Matt 5:1 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him. 2 Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying: 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. 6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 "Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. 8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the PROPHETS who were before you. 13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot. 14 "You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, your light should shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."

The son of man has said He is the truth which is the word of God. He also said He is the Light. So if He is the Light then the light is also the word of God. And if your light must shine before others then the word of God must come out of your mouth which makes you a prophet. That is why He said they persecuted the prophets before you, in effect calling you a prophet. Not only that but He said your light must shine so they will see your good works, in effect saying that spreading the word of the Lord is good works.

Oh! That's interesting. As Jesus saw the multitudes, he went up to the mount, the crowds accommodated themselves throughout the mountainside to listen to Jesus' sermon and he delivered it in the ears of his disciples. Now, I wonder, at the end of his speech, why were the crowds of Jews astonished by, if Jesus didn't speak to them but to the disciples only. The text says that it was because Jesus spoke to them with authority. (Mat. 7:28,29) To them who, the disciples or to all that were listening to him?

IMHO, "...and when he was set, his disciples came unto him," means only that his disciples, being the closest group to him sat dawn closer than the multitudes; but the sermon was delivered to the whole people.

I disagree. I think He was mainly speaking to the disciples but letting anyone hear so if they chose to follow they could.

The Lord says this;

"The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are brief.

The wise shall inherit glory, But shame shall be the legacy of fools.
The words of the upright save them but the words of the wicked are a deadly ambush.

The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life.

Those who walk uprightly fear the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life.

Blessed is he who is kind to the poor.

The Lord’s delight is those who speak the truth, and those who speak what is right he loves.

The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the just .

The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.

As righteousness leads to life, So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.

The root of the righteous yields fruit.

In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death.

The ear that hears, and the eye that sees - the Lord has made them both."

I am the resurrection and the life.

You have all the right in the world to your opinion. But, as far as I am concerned, Jesus delivered that sermon to all the Jews assembled down the mountainside. So, we agree to disagree.
