Greetings. I am new to these forums.

Religiously, I am not a particularly religious person at the moment but I am mainly influenced by an old-world traditionalist point of view.

I have found this forum after having been inexplicably banned from another religiously-oriented forum (which ironically, seemed largely moderated by atheists). I was banned after the first dozen or so posts after another poster began accusing me of being there with a "political agenda".

I hope that this place is more accepting.

People have been banned now and again for various reasons, but I don't know if anyone have been for a political agenda, so this should be interesting!

Ironically, that person would often post articles from sites that have a well-known political agenda, and he hasn't been banned by the moderators of the said forum yet.
 
Welcome to IO, Vessariò. We have plenty of refugees here, so you should fit right in.

I hope you don't mind heated debate and a bit of head-butting. (Yes, we can all be butt-heads every once in a while.) :p
 
What is this political agenda (communist, marxist, liberal pig, right wing wacko, egocentric libertarian??) and what old world traditional viewpoint (Norse, Zeus, Zoroastrian, Hindu, Taoist, Salahist, Pastafarian??)

I am actually rather apolitical. I am more concerned with cultural and social ideas than political ones. However, I have been against wars where they are not necessary, and I am against the intervention of large and powerful countries in those who cannot defend themselves.

The only two political articles I posted on that site were from antiwar.com and from another site, foreignpolicyjournal.com. I suppose one of the articles was slightly critical of Obama, so it may have upset those who supported him in this last American election.

As for tradition, I don't mean a particular religious ideal, though I am nominally Christian. Philosophically, I ascribe to some of the ideas of the Perennialists, which is to say Tradition with a "capital T". Such was developed at the beginning of the 20th century by a Frenchman named Rene Guenon and is today best represented in the United States by Huston Smith, James Cutsinger, and Sayyed Hossein Nasr.

Truth be told, I don't know what the political agenda I am accused of promoting is. The site seemed to be rather liberal in the American sense, so perhaps they felt I was ruining the atmosphere for them.

As for Tradition, I am mostly Christian, but I have studied a variety of other faiths independently.

I am largely apolitical. I tend to see things in cultural and social terms rather than in political ones. I guess that might make me a libertarian but to me, that's just a name. I do feel strongly about non-interventionism, however.

A little bit, I suppose.

On matters religious, I more or less take St. Augustine's view: that "true religion" existed more or less in one form or another throughout the various ancient races and cultures:

The very thing that is now called the Christian religion was not wanting among the ancients from the beginning of the human race, until Christ came in the flesh, after which the true religion, which had already existed, began to be called "Christian".

I believe that there may be seeds of Truth in all the ancient Traditional religions, and even a few which post-date Christianity such as Islam and Sikhism. That being said, not all those who call themselves "religions" necessarily exist for the pursuit of Truth.
 
So you don't see it as ancient spiritual practices like shamanism that evolve into more elaborate rituals that eventually became organized religion?

There are two ways of looking at this.

One is a more modern way, which is expounded by the Baha'i in the form of the doctrine of "progressive revelation".

The other, which is slightly more controversial, is that Shamanism and "primitive" beliefs are not those which have not yet evolved, but those who have degenerated and moved away from the Eternal revelation.

I'd be happy to discuss this in more detail, but I will do so elsewhere, as it is quite beyond the scope of this simple introduction thread.
