Do you have a favorite Jesus movie?

I know some Christians don’t like movies or TV shows that feature Jesus, because they(writers, directors, actors) ‘put their own spin on it’ and ‘get it wrong’ most of the time, and they give you the images of Jesus that are incompatible or destructive even, to the image you have of him and so cherish… and I totally understand the feeling...

But I recently came across three Jesus movies that I really liked.
Those are:

The Gospel According to Matthew
Bruce Marchiano portrays Jesus as a joyous, earthy, personal man with a sense of humor.

The Gospel of John
Narrated by Christopher Plummer and stars Scottish-Peruvian actor Henry Ian Cusick as Jesus.

The Bible
A History Channel television miniseries based on the Bible. It was produced by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett. Diogo Morgado, a Portuguese actor plays Jesus.

These three actors display Jesus’s personality/character/demeanor very differently from each other, but I like them all, and I can’t decide which one I like the best…

Then, Neo is the representation of the Christ? I only saw the first installment and don't remember much of it other than the still poses in the air...:p I should watch it one more time with your perspective in mind. ;)

Not joking at all! Many of the key components of the story directly correlate to Christian ideals and principles. Even the characters have roles much the same as those found in the New Testament (John the Baptist, Jesus, Judas).

If I may, let me invite you to watch this very short clip. The agents in the Matrix operate identically to what the bible calls demons. The Matrix is the world in which we live. The video cuts off before it is explained but the "woman in the red dress" ends up possessed by an agent. The agents (demons) move about freely within people who are not unplugged (freed, saved). In summation Morpheus says, "If [the people of the World] aren't one of us, they are one of them." That is what Christ also said, "Whoever is not with me, is against me." Good ol' George Bush uttered the same words too, but he was blasted for it by the media.

So with that in mind, the following reads like a page torn out of an Evangelical Christian sermon.

If you really doubt the strong ties between the Matrix and Christian Theology, just Google it. I'm probably not doing it any justice. It's hard to explain succinctly.
 
Well now, this is interesting!

I once posted (elsewhere) a rather negative view of The Matrix, suggesting its outlook was suspiciously 'gnostic' when compared to the more mainstream Christology of The Lord of the Rings.

And I got politely taken to task for it by a theologian who's opinions I happened to respect ... but we never really got into it.

That clip above — thanks, Frrostedman — is enough to cause me to re-examine my position on the movie. On the strength of Morpheus' commentary, it's nowhere near as 'gnostic' as I had assumed it to be.

(Hands-up moment: As many here know, the Holy Trinity is my 'thing', so yes, I did get a bit narked when a character turns up by that name ...)
 
I don't have a movie in mind . I wouldn't see one .

But my favorite Christ is the one written about in the book of rev. " King of kings and Lord of Lords "
I see Christ as a fighter. and as a warlord.

It pleases me more than words can say that this clip and commentary was warmly received. Folks elsewhere didn't give this a second's thought.


But let us not forget, Thomas (or should I call you, Mr. Anderson! LOL), that the kicker at the end of the movie is, Neo (the One) doesn't realize his full potential to save mankind, until after he is killed and resurrected. Did you notice his awe at the true nature of our reality, after he comes back to life and looks around.... such a powerful, powerful sequence. Gives me the chills.

Imagine the hopeless feeling that Neo's followers had when they saw him die... the look on their faces was priceless. And I'm sure Jesus' disciples had a similar look on their face. And I would say it wasn't the girl's "power" but rather her faith in him (though he was dead) that seemed to make the difference. Or, you could say that the "Trinity" breathed life into Jesus' dead body. Both work fine for me. :cool:

Maybe because I have a deafness to a highly-tuned complex Sci-Fi concept, I still didn't get it after watching the first clip ... whereas Thomas got it perfectly!

So ... Morpheus is John the Baptist, Neo is the Christ, Mr. Smith is the Devil? Which character represents Judas? And Trinity, who in the world is she??

But the second clip ... although my brain still had trouble processing it fully, I got the chills like you said. When Neo got gunned down, and Smith says "check it" ... that's the analogy of Jesus getting speared ... (am I reading too much into it?)

After the resurrection, Neo suddenly realizes his divine power ... taking care of demons are now "a piece of cake" ... This is the Absolute power of the Christ. If you believe in Him, He'll be in you, and protect you, you have nothing to fear. No evil can creep into you and destroy you ...

Gosh, gotta go get the DVD and watch the whole thing ... !

To post a youtube video, just put [ youtube] and [ /youtube ] brackets around the web address for the video. For example, here is Agent Smith's monologue about the creation of the Matrix. The web address for this video is:

You could just put the youtube brackets around an entire address and be done with it. However, the only thing the brackets really need to be around is the part after the text "/watch?v=" ... The actual record of the video within youtube is the "nb6yOklzHMI" ... so if you just put that code inside youtube brackets you end up with this (just do a quote/reply of my message to see the text below):

Tadashi was, I believe, kicked off the forum. Shame. A good guy. Passionate and enthusiastic. He'd have liked talking to you.

Passionate. Now there's a word. When we did company reviews at my last place, we were required to get comments from three co-workers. More than once, mine began, "Tom is very passionate about his work ..." which is code for: "Tom can be a real pain in the ass!"

Always being right can be a real bummer, sometimes. Wouldn't you agree? :D
