a figment of your imagination
Christianity to me....is all about me.

Many of you aren't surprised.

But to me the Christian ideal is following the teachings of Jesus...putting the mind of Christ in our mind. Making the teachings our knee jerk reaction, turn the other cheek, love your neighbor (and enemy), care for the poor, indigent, don't fuss about clothes, material things...but each other...

It isn't at all about telling others where they are going wrong, or what they should or shouldn't do....but your own personal growth, reducing judgement, negativity, and put downs.

It is about me...me improving...not about me forcing my ideals on others.

For a moment there, I thought you were confessing a bout of narcissism!

As long as you also believe that the teachings of Buddha and other great religious leaders as just as valid, then I commend you for your Christians beliefs.

I like the idea of "fussing about each other"!

I am reminded of the meanings of the two words patriotism and nationalism. Patriotism means my country is great. Nationalism means my country is better than your country.

Yeah... love for or devotion to one's country....

Patriotism - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

I don't get that any more... I like your difference in definition, but I don't even cater to this one any more... just because I was a member of the lucky sperm club I should care about humans or land here more than anywhere else? I care about all animals, and lands.... While we are on it, I aint into planetism, or milkywayism either... I am a member of the multiverse...

As to interfaith.... I see Jesus as my pre-eminent teacher...at this moment. I can completely understand those to whom the Baha'ullah, Moses, Mohamed, Buddha, Krishna, Lao Tzu, Confucious, etc.... how they have found solace in those teachings.

Fascinating comment Wil. From your posts I never would have thought you were a one teacher kind of guy.

I wish Thomas were not on sabbatical at this time. It would be interesting to hear his thoughts on your statement!

I am not a one teacher kinda guy....

the bible is my goto book though....two of them actually, so I can see 7 interpretations at once....and then Metaphysical Bible Dictionary | Truth Unity to assist in discernment of the text...

Jesus's teachings are what I ascribe to....first and most....but I sure don't discount other religious texts or the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda, Thich Nhat Hanh, Eckardt Tolle, and so many more...

Just like homeworlds is my favorite game.... but I play hundreds more...

Now that sounds more like the Wil I know! Thanks for the link to the MBD, too. Absolutely wonderful site I will be referring to from now on.

My over reaching belief is we are one with everything. That we swim in this ether and manifest as solids...in him I live and breathe and have my being.

And various belief systems are ways of connecting with the one, thru our eachness we reach the allness.

In Abrahamic Religions for some Moses was enough, for others it took Jesus to find that link, for others Mohamed resonated and is the connection of thought they use, for others it was the Bab, or Bob Marley.... we've hundreds or thousands if not millions of guides that have made a connection and would like to share with us the way they found...

We have others that are on all these paths that are providing guide services (preachers, imams, rabbi's etc)

And then Hindus, Buddhists, Taoists etc....all finding their way, their path....

even this.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QADMMmU6ab8

we are in the universe and the universe is in us.....science...

yuppers Thomas....but for us to be us, I must first be me.

Like a mother who wants to do everything for her family....I ask her, if you don't take care of your own health...how will you take care of others?

My spiritual health is paramount for me to be able to do anything.

G!d can only do for me what G!d can do thru me...

We must provide an ample conduit.

The bible and teachings is about MY personal improvement. Not me foisting it on somebody else.

I disagree. I think that's a very 20th century American meme.

I think the Beatitude say something quite different.

No. They're a list of qualities quite contrary to 'me-firstness' or self-centredness or egocentrism ...

Still looks to me like they are the 'attitudes' that I should 'be'.
That's what I mean about the meme.
The attitudes can only be truly arrived at when they're not 'about me'.

For me, it's about the process: metanoia - kenosis - theosis.

The love of other before oneself, the emptying of self to make room for the other, the Indwelling Presence.

exactly you are saying it...

it is about me loving others...

about me emptying myself...

about me making room...

Nothing about convincing others to do so...not coercing or converting others...not judging others...

all about me...

meme...

me-me...

all about me.

U must B from the ME gen. Bro.

Why? Is it the adage of the ME gen to not force their ideals on others? To work on self improvement?

Took away two posts, sorry. Are you a big shot here or what?

NOT influencing others means you ain't here, bro. So where are we now? INFLUENCING through reason and common sense, or whatever else you may be INFLUENCING with? Yah.

I tink so.

took away two posts??

big shot? no...a participant... not the oldest, nor youngest, not with most seniority nor most verbose... I do state my opinions....I do participate a lot...sometimes to others chagrin...

I do influence I suppose...through stating my beliefs, my thoughts, hopefully not telling others what to think but encouraging them to think... I feel our beliefs end when they interfere with others...tis a conversation not a conversion... interfaith conversation.

You mean an interfaith convo about TRUTH, capital t.

So then some will sound more like preachermen, and the others are still mucking about, I mean SEARCHING for that which eludes them...

...so who the better one, the searcher or the sharer?

Sharers are bad? 'Cmon, no one wants to think they know NADA. I believe some know LESS than nada. Quite a thought, eh?
