What makes you think everyone else is wrong about belief

I'm with Tea on this one. HCS, I have read this through several times and cannot make heads or tails of what your point is! Or how your hypothetical story ties in to the rest of your comments.

So what if the owner of a different company is a Christian Scientist? That group does not believe in the use of medicine (with the exception of some obvious injury) at all. That owner then should have the right to refuse health insurance to their employees? According to the logic you are using this owner should have the right to tell his employees "go pay for your own health insurance."

I find it telling that there has been no response to this comment I made concerning a company's right to dictate their religion onto their employees.

So then, Dan, you agree with the statement that the owner of a company who is a Christian Scientist should have the right to force his religious beliefs on his employees and deny them health insurance. Because that is your opinion if your opinion on Hobby Lobby has not changed.

I'm not asking you to add anything. I'm asking you to confirm that you agree with the above paragraph. Or that you do not. Which?

Dan, you've clearly stated your views on that decision...He is asking a new scenario...since you seen to say that religion trumps gov't in regards to health care... Do you agree those religions that eschew medical intervention, believing G!d will heal all have the right to not pay for health insurance for their employees?

What if they were Islam and instead of the laws of leviticus they wanted to adhere to Sharia Law? are you in favor of that level of religion over gov't?

I don't believe that an employer should be forced to pay for his employees' health insurance if doing so violates the employer's religious beliefs.

I think this is getting way off topic. The insurance scenario was merely an example (which you asked for in post #27) of how different beliefs can conflict, i.e., that it's not possible for everyone to be tolerant of everyone else's beliefs.

Not off topic at all. Very on topic as we are discussing a real world situation where someone gets to say their belief is right and everyone else is wrong.

You did finally answer the question though, and for that I thank you.

As a deist who believes that God only gave us the tools we humans need to make an intelligent civilisation, I think belief is completely harmless providing the person who holds said belief doesn't:

A. Impose it on other peoples' throat.

B. Use it as an excuse to escape crime and punishment.

C. Treat as if it's 100% accurate on life itself.

Seems the supreme court allows that while you can't use discrimination in hiring, you can force your beliefs on your employees...
