Veganism and the Bible

In the case of Judaism, one practical argument in favor of meat-eating is the need for various animal byproducts to perform required rituals. E.g., a Torah scroll must be made from parchment, tefillin (small boxes worn during morning prayers) must have leather covers, a shofar (ram's horn) must be blown on Rosh Hashanah.

If meat-eating become politically incorrect and discouraged or outlawed, then obtaining these other animal products would probably become very difficult.

Maybe this applies to other religions too.
Yes but you can get everything you need from plant sources.

Well, no, you can't. The materials are specified by religious law, based on the Bible. Improvised substitutes are not permitted.

Do you still stone adulterers?

I think you posted this in the wrong thread. This one is titled "Re: Veganism and the Bible".

Just trying to discover the line...how far we follow the letter of the law...

Many change as time and understanding grows...

right thread... any improvisation here?

"we follow the letter of the law"

You posted many times that to you the Bible is nonsense. And so are most of your posts.

I have never posted that the bible is nonsense...

I have posted repeatedly that it (the Christian Bible) is a compendium of 66 books, 2/3 the OT, the Jewish canon (rearranged to end on a bad note, so the good news will look better) mostly written by Jews (including the new testament)...open to all variety of interpretation but I believe to be full of metaphor, allegory, parables, historical fiction, metaphysics, divine thought, and mythology.... where one draws those lines is upto them...(how the follow the letter of the law vs the intent of the law)

I know vegan orthodox Jews that won't eat vegan cheese on a vegan burger, because of an implied kosher violation... I've no clue whether their religious items are leather or not... or if their shank is real at the seder table.

I am asking you though... do you still think stoning adulterers is correct, and having multiple wives and concubines, or do you see some wiggle room in following the laws of the land, and progress in this regard? (since you seem so steadfast on other things)

Personally I always look at the first book of the bible. God made one woman for the man so the practice of more than one wife was not in paradise when human was immortal. There are a lot of practices that I believe contradict genesis in the bible but those practices only occurred after the fall to include eating animals. I believe that if you want to get back to the garden of eden you should strive to practice what was permissible in that garden. YOu know my view on the original condition. A stone in symbolic form represents knowledge so if you want to interpret that book as holy you have to apply the symbolic meaning otherwise its murder which is a violation of one of the 10 basic commandments. If you apply the literal meaning to it then it becomes the unholy bible. They say satans best weapon is the holy bible and that is because it has been so grossly misinterpreted.

Well we know that stoning occurred, and was a punishment, capital punishment, stoned to death, and we also know that if done by law that would not be murder, but killing according to the law (just like when G!d orders people to be killed in war) there is a biblical differentiation between murder and killing.... G!d did not say thou shall not kill.

We also know that Adam complained he did not have a helpmete.... and G!d prior to making woman, made animals for Adam, but Adam tried the animals and did not find a good helpmete...and THEN G!d made woman, and Adam agreed she was a good helpmete. Have you access to the midrash on this subject?

In advanced studies they talk about adams first wife. The firstwife is the one that sinned causing adam to sin and the split of the male and female . The second wife is NOT the actual true counterpart because that is the mortal wife which was caused by the sin of adultery. There is a place of unbreakable unchangeable elements that is spirit. The bible refers to it as the dove. That place is where each of us is still one with whoever our true counterparts are. It is through that union that we are joined to whoever that is. GOD didn't just make some helpmate for adam. the orginal translation said and The Creator(s) made HUMAN in their own image consisting of a male and a female. This can all get extremely complex and my knowledge grows as I do. As far as murder. God did say thou shalt not kill. The bible is written in a way that if you don't think with a divine mind and say hey I know how this sounds but god wouldn't do that then you come out with the opposite of what hes done and what he does. That's why I think jesus is the perfect example to go by and why Christians even though they may misinterpret the bible they never misinterpret jesus.

So G!d says don't kill unless he says to kill? Women and Children and old people to? This is literal to you?

Yeah, Lilith is in the midrash but missing from the bible... and yes we have the difference in creation between Gen1 and Gen2, G!d making animals as helpmetes and then woman....vs male and female he created them... is the second one Lilith and the first one eve?

Providing scriptural references for your statements would help....or defining which texts are you referring to in your 'advanced studies'?

the only time killing is justified is self defense. they didn't put everything in the bible but kept it in texts such is contained in the Vatican library.

lol.... when does G!d ever need self defense? This sounds like Bush's justification for pre-emptive war.... Well I knew they were gonna be a problem, so start smiting them now....

you got links to the books you've read in the Vatican Library??

I don't know how many decades I've been told about the secrets contained in the Vatican Library....
