This was probably only intended as an example, but according to wils link, the infallibility only extends to Catholic doctrine, in the case that there would be a dispute on a particular subject, like the nature of the 'soul' or something like that. The pope would have 'the final say' on the matter. I feel that if the church is going to have a position on a matter someone has to decide what it is.
