Aussie said the one he bought was...
Oh daddy's going to have his time behind the wheel for sure, but it was Jr's idea. This's what he wanted. Actually I had planned to pass on my Spitfire, but he really didn't fancy it. So I told him when he found what he wanted I'd go half. So when he found this I went with him to look at it. We took the Spitfire and I let him drive. I was hoping he'd fall in love with it on the way. He didn't, but the bloke selling the ute did. Long story short, we swapped even up and drove home in the ute!DAMN! So fess-up Auss, was this vehicle Jr's idea or dad's?
The 1 tonne ute, 'Utility Edition' was only made here and as far as I know was never exported. Neither were the other HQ utes for that matter, but those bore a closer resemblence to their US cousin the El Camino. Same running gear, chassis, etc. The tonners are something special though and were only made for a few years. The ute...utility vehicle.... Never seen an el Camino flatbed...
That's really, really nice Auss. Will you be my daddy...lol?Actually I had planned to pass on my Spitfire, but he really didn't fancy it. So I told him when he found what he wanted I'd go half. He did offer, but I told him to keep it to do up the ute. Tyres, some putty and a respray mainly. I'll post a pic when he gets it sorted. So does your son's half of the purchase go to you now?
Sure mate. Now get up off your arse and rub daddy's feet! Will you be my daddy...lol?![]()
Got it back from the panel beater the other day. New paint, seat covers, blacked out grill, tyres, and wheels. Just need to fit the exhaust. Sound like a bleeding jet at the moment! So how's the ute coming along?

Yeah it is. Actually I wanted to ask you about that. We got the grill clip and flash wheels off a regular HQ at the wreckers. We're using the original steel wheels inboard in the back with the flash wheels mounted outboard with aluminum spacers. Thing is, the steels are 6 inch bead to bead and the flashers are 6.5. Any problems?Sweet... I want one! Hey, is that a duallie?
Ideally all 4 wheels out back should be the same width so that the rolling diameter of each tire/wheel assembly is the same, but it's easy to compensate for any difference. Just run the inboards 3 to 5 psi lower than the outboards. That should get all 4 tire/wheel assemblies pretty close.Thing is, the steels are 6 inch bead to bead and the flashers are 6.5. Thanks mate! I'll tell the lad.Just run the inboards 3 to 5 psi lower than the outboards. That should get all 4 tire/wheel assemblies pretty close.
