A few days ago the United States Senate passed a resolution condemning the persecution of Baha'is in Iran... this was a rare case where there was bi-partisan support for a resolution as there's been a lot of partisanship. I'm including the news item here as it may not be well known or heard of generally...

A summary of the resolution reads as follows:

"Condemns the government of Iran's state-sponsored persecution of its Baha'i minority and its continued violation of the International Covenants on Human Rights.

"Calls on the government of Iran to release the 7 imprisoned Baha'i leaders, the 12 imprisoned Baha'i educators, and all other prisoners held solely on account of their religion.

"Calls on the President and Secretary of State, in cooperation with responsible nations, to condemn the government of Iran's continued violation of human rights and demand the release of prisoners held solely on account of their religion...."

Hate to be cynical....but I'd say this has more to do with doing anything to poke at Iran than any standing behind the Baha'i community

Thanks for your post Wil...

I see at least two important processes

(1)The resolution in my view is important as it shows an area where there is some unanimity above the usual partisanship... and

(2) it alludes to "cooperation" with other responsible nations "to condemn the government of Iran's continued violation of human rights and demand the release of prisoners held solely on account of their religion...."
