I've worked in the field of mental health for nearly 40 years and have always been fascinated with the occasional cases of parents bringing young children in due to their concern that something was radically wrong with their child when the child has said things unexplainable by way of our current materialistic worldview. Cases such as the young child speaking of their deceased grandmother visiting them in the night or purportedly seeing "ghosts." The latest to come into our agency was a 6 year-old whose parents with whom he had lived since age of 18 months had lately taken to first saying he was someone named Michael, (not his name), and then later that Michael talks with him. They said his birth mother had a child who died before his birth by the name of Michael of whom he had never known. Find it interesting to see therapists in the difficult position of saying there's nothing "wrong" with your child, assuming they do not hold that materialistic worldview, or struggling with making sense of it when they do.
