Baha'is in Iran

Let's describe one of the terrible practices in Iran. Some Muslims would pretend to be Baha'is. Baha'i scholar Moojan Momen documents this practice in The Baha'i Communities of Iran: 1851-1921. Shaykh Mahmud created the Anti-Baha'i Society in 1951. According to Momen, Halibi (1900-98) registered the society with the government in 1957. It was called the Anjuman-i Hujjatiyih Mahdaviyyih (Society of the Proof of Islam, the Expected Mahdi). Momen continues to describe how it was encouraged by the government since it drew attention away from politics. People were trained to argue with Baha'is. They also pretended to be Baha'is so they could gather information about them. You know, give names to officials. Momen notes Halibi didn't encourage violence. The Anjuman-i Hujjatiyih Mahdaviyyih harassed Baha'i businessmen. Pretending to be a Baha'i didn't start with this anti-Baha'i society. It happened even earlier than this. For example, Ali Khan Tufangchi-bashi Nuri pretended to be a Baha'i when he was sent to Mahfuruzak. After he gathered names, he had four hundred men attack Mahfuruzak in 1883.

Pretending to be a Baha'i continues in the internet age. Like 16Masa'il who has his own conspiracy theories here, I also have my own conspiracy theories. 16Masa'il. I will now refer to this individual as 口蜜腹剑人 (a Chinese idiom literally translated as a honey-mouthed and dagger-hearted person), because of his subtle accusations covered in sweet words.

As an outsider it is hard for me to judge any of this, but as a poster on this board with some experience I would suggest focusing on the subject rather than the persons. Masá'il could be a great many things, I don't know, none of us do. What we do know are the thoughts and ideas that the person is sharing and I think the most constructive thing is to comment/prove/disprove those.

They also wouldn't work with the U.S. to do so. Similar accusations ("they are agents of the U.S.") are today hurled at leaders of Iran's Green Movement (see Akbar Ganji's "Leaders Of Iran’s Green Movement At A Three Ways: Execution, Freedom, Or Indefinite Imprisonment").
