The Weird Side Effect of Not Getting Enough Sleep
by Korin Miller

You know that it’s important to get a good night’s sleep, and odds are you probably try to do the best that you can. However, plenty of people fall short of getting as much sleep as they need — Gallup reports that 42 percent of adults in the U.S. don’t get enough shut-eye.

Now, a May 17 study published in the journal Royal Society Open Science has found that a lack of zzz’s will do more than make you tired — it can be a turn-off to other people. For the study, researchers photographed 25 people, after two days of not getting enough sleep and after getting a good night’s sleep. The pictures were given to 122 people to rate how much they would like to socialize with the study participants. They were also asked to rate participants’ attractiveness, health, sleepiness, and trustworthiness. Read More...

Although, I wouldn't call that a weird side effect....I think most would understand that to be normal. (Looking less attractive/healthy when sleep deprived.)

I think that it can also cause temporary psychosis, leading up to possible permanent psychosis (but I could be mistaken/wrong.)

I read somewhere that you can actually begin to hallucinate without enough sleep. So many friends of mine work themselves into exhaustion with no recuperation time whatsoever and meanwhile I'm often in bed by 8pm and out of bed by 7am. When I don't get enough sleep I feel just brain dead, a fog that doesn't seem to lift throughout the day no matter what I do. Eleven hours is my average and while that's a lot for many people it works for me.

ps sorry for reviving dead thread lollll

Grave digging is allowed and welcomed here!
I love sleeping eleven hours but always wake up before than nowadays.

I often wake up too before that eleven hour mark but only slightly. With the changing seasons and the days getting much shorter it's a lot harder for me to get up and moving in the morning.
