Apologies all for the site being inaccessible yesterday - December was our busiest month ever, with just under 40,000 people visiting the site.
There were resources enough - specifically, bandwidth - allocated to cope with this.
However, the problem arose because a couple of automated scripts hit the site to download content to their own servers, especially a search engine script from a UK search engine that consumerd nearly one-third of CR's allocated bandwidth by itself.
Once the bandwidth allocated for CR was all used up, the site was automatically shut down by by the hosting company's resources script. And I wasn't able to get in touch with tech support on New Year's Eve.
Anyway, I've now blocked the offending scripts and will ensure there is an extra 10 Gigabytes of monthly transfer allocated to the site.
