I am trying my best to read Maharishi Mahesh's Science of Being and Art of Living text on transcendental meditation. I'm finding it incredibly confusing! I don't know if it's the word choice, the cadence, or if it's inherently discombobulating, but I've read plenty of other spiritual texts like the Gita, a ton by Prabhupada, Yogananda's stuff, so I'm not unfamiliar with the content. It's just very difficult to get through a paragraph and know what the hell I just read. Anyone else have this problem or have any tips on how to read his books?

Welcome Fernworm,

I've not read Maharishi Mahesh's "Science of Being..." in it's entirety, but something he said in regard to the Bhagavad Gita may also be apropos when reading his own teachings.

"...think of a businessman, he says. As long as he is immersed in all the details of his ventures, he will not be able to really improve the whole of his undertakings. But as soon as he distances himself for awhile, he can easily grasp what steps to take next..."
That is, read it, put it aside for a while, then contemplate it again. Sleep on it as it were. I know this technique has often helped me to better understand both the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita.

Actually I find Maharishi Mahesh's comments on the Gita rather insightful and like the Gita itself, applicable to a variety of different situations we find ourselves faced with.

I love this, thank you! As I'm reading further it is starting to come together.
