Today, on Yom Kippur, there was an attack on a synagogue in Halle, Germany.

The security measures prevented the attacker from entering the building, where people were praying at the time. A great tragedy was prevented, but he murdered two persons outside. Judging from the video he published, he is a right wing radical.

I'm horrified, and sad, I do not want anyone to be afraid to live in my country, and I will keep on doing what I can in solidarity with all who work to keep this country safe for all who live here.

In other/better news, I see you guys are shutting down coal fired electrical plants and continuing to up your solar game.

Thanks, wil. I was tempted to correct you with the actual details, but - Thanks.

These things can and do happen anywhere in the world: any church, school, synagogue or mosque. It can be from the radical right or radical left.

Can't say I pay as much attention to these sorts of attacks outside of the US as within the US, living here. But, when it comes to politically tinged attempts to commit mass murders here, have almost never heard of the culprit being from the "far left." Now many of the mass attacks here have been committed by those without apparent political motive, which, perhaps, makes them a different sort of crazy than the political ones.

Ok. The anti-Jewish vitriol here in the UK seems to come from hard-left Palestinian supporters.

Woke sentiment is anti-Israel, which is translated by the hard-left Momentum lot as anti-Jewish. It's sad to witness it developing.

I think there is a difference between anti semitism and anti Israeli aggression against Palestine. There are many Jews that I know that are not happy with the bulldozing Palestinian houses for new settlements..

I personally don't understand all the current politics over there but know it is a quagmire....one hard place to become enlightened, I'd think.

And that's the point that doesn't get through to lots of people here (in UK). Israel/Palestine is as you say a complicated issue to outsiders. Prefer not to get drawn in to it here. But the point is that anti-Semitism isn't always coming from the right wing?

In the US, there is quite a lot of criticism of Israel by the far left but not aware of any anti-semitism by them.

There is the problem of equating Jews with the Israel/Palestine issues. The UK Labour Party is presently fiercely pro-Palestine/anti-Israel.

It is fine to reason on an intellectual level that being fiercely anti-Israel should not make a person fiercely anti-Jew.

But it doesn't get across to a lot of people. It's sad but it is nevertheless true that a section of the left wing can be -- and IS -- anti-Semetic.
