Invitation to @AlanT but of course anyone is welcome to join.

What's your perspective on things? I guess we're both godless, you and I, but differ in how we hold religious teachings. Let's leave those aside in this thread.

What makes up your view of the universe and our situation as parts of it?

Probably. But it was worth the attempt.

I've been expounding it on this forum for over a year, no?

Anyway, here is a brief summary: I find it fascinating how we are able to observe the universe which we are part of, and form mental models of it, and communicate and improve these. It is endlessly fascinating to me to explore and contemplate and discuss this back-and-forth between the subjective and objective.

Same!

I may just be to thick to understand what a world view is!

I just plod thru life. Call things as I see them, and attempt to respond not react.

I tend to use certain filters and intentionally ignore others (more with age)

My world view is I prefer to view the world.... I encourage everyone to travel more. I also prefer to view the world from a sleeping bag and tent flap.

Thanks, both!

Wil, by world-view I meant things like the answer to, "What is going on here?"

And as follow-ups: can this striving be sudied and understood in terms of what makes it tick? What other phenomena are driven by the striving?

Sort of a Maslow's hierarchy, once we get Beyond striving we got lots to do. And we make that choice just drive for personal gain, public acceptance, the greater good or...

personal gain, public acceptance, the greater good or... or what?
What do you think is important once we get Beyond striving to exist?

How about you? Would you follow the Golden Rule even if God was indifferent about it?

Do onto others not as you would have done unto you....but as they would have done unto them.

Viva LA differencia!

Actually, no! I would not feed the proverbial crocodile worshiper to the crocodiles. I would not serve meat to my guests, even if they ate it.

I like the negative formulation: Don't do to others what is hateful to you.

I don't serve meat to my guests either...but nor do I give them veggies they don't like but I do!

I find our mutual likes and capitalize on them.

It is arrogant to think we are all alike.

Including in your negative option.

wil has been waving this flag since forever, it's a nice sentiment, but it has to be said that any one sentence can be picked apart when moved into unintended context. Why it might not be appropriate to pick so much on the golden rule, the spirit of the rule is as well meaning as wils alternative.
