This Is Not What I Am, excerpt from the Yamaka Sutta

I would advise not posting on either Buddhist or Hindu forums with this kind of new-age nonsense, it will not be well-received. :p
Though ironically, if you really want to understand these traditions, that is probably what you need to do.

You disagree that buddhism is refined hinduism?

Or do you disagree the dao and other world teachings have no commonalities with buddhism?

Well, you are quoting a lot of Theravada scripture, a school whose teachings are carefully phrased to not encourage any eternalist tendencies. Here's a typical one:

https://accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/sn/sn44/sn44.010.than.html

But other schools have different takes.

Yes, thats a beautiful one, thank you :) I mostly read theravada but I read all the scripture. There are many forms to obtain buddhist knowledge. The different schools have no key differences in my opinion. Buddhism is not about words and definitions, its very clear in the teaching. Its a path of the soul, not of the mind.

What are my beliefs, my sister? :)

Look at your post above at 10:21 for example.
You come across not as somebody who really wants to learn, but as somebody who is just trying to prop up an idiosyncratic belief system, spuriously claiming that various traditions agree with your view. You come across as a new-ager.

Then why quote words, if you don't think words and definitions matter? This being a dialogue forum, it's tricky to get by without words...

Anyway, one of the very few things all Buddhists schools agree on without qualification is the rejection of the idea of a supreme creator or governor of the universe. Which is where I understand you to differ, going by your words about continual awareness being the Glory of God.

Not to look down on new-age beliefs. We can talk about anything.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the New-age sub-forum? I don't think it has much to do with Buddhism.

You said you understand the teaching more clearly than me. This is obviously not so, for you judge and insult people, therefore you dont understand the teaching, my sister. You have ego, and its obvious.

The purpose of words is to convey meaning. So the words dont matter. The meaning matters.

We say God out of reverence. Its out of love for the system of creation. This is all actually Self love.

Check out if you like the Garland Flower Sutra in the other thread :) lets talk about those words

What I do have is a finely-tuned BS monitor, and it's off-scale when reading your posts.

But I'd still be interested in a straight answer to my original question.

Do you think the OP sutta is describing some kind of continuing personal essence, and if so, how is that different from Atman? This goes to the heart of the difference between Buddhism and Hinduism, the distinction between being and non-being, transience and permanence.

It's a straight question, how about a straight answer?

Again, this proselytizing is nothing to do with Buddhism, and probably belongs in the New-age forum.

As a general observation, why bother with a sub-forum structure if people ignore it?
If you want new people here, then you need to up your game.

Dear Mrs Malaprop, your blood is boiling. Why do we cause our own suffering? Remember that there is always a home of peace and love inside of you and that you can find refuge in it❀

Please just answer the question I asked.

My BS monitor has now shorted out.

Dear sister, you posted that 20 minutes ago and edited it 5 minutes ago. So for the last quarter of an hour the main thing on your mind has been your spitefulness and ego attachment to a person you dont even know.

This can prove to be a great lesson in buddhism, mindfulness, and love, capable of aiding you in yout life, if you are willing to open up to it and drop your stress, anxiety, and disatisfaction, and in its stead practice infinite compassion, loving kindness, and deep respect to all sentient beings.

Respectfully and with your best intention at heart,
Laura

Please just answer the question, and please stop the BS.

Please move this thread to the New-age forum. High BS levels are normal there!

I'm concerned that any actual Buddhists visiting here would be so overwhelmed by the stench that they'd never return.

"Buddha save me from new-agers!"

You are not actually concerned for others, that is precisley why you suffer such fits of frustration and anger. No one can save you from your own violence and ego.

Be well my sister, the teaching of love is always here waiting for you, a refuge from the ignorance of this agressive and violent world

...practice infinite compassion, loving kindness, and deep respect to all sentient beings.
Jesus did, and his mother had to cradle his broken body at the foot the cross where they killed him. Remember it. No primrose path to paradise. Don't try to write it out of the story ... imo
