Death can, after all, be seen as just a change of scenery.....
... but then it would not be death we'd be talking about, but life of some kind.Death can, after all, be seen as just a change of scenery.....
That is exactly what death is, a change of scenery of life from here to somewhere else. Death is the low part, the trough, of the sine wave, while life is the crest. We need and have both in order for the wave to function. One cannot have a half of a sine wave. That makes no sense.... but then it would not be death we'd be talking about, but life of some kind.

What does the sine wave refer to in your metaphor? What is the oscillating medium? To me, what you describe sounds more like sleep and wakefulness than life and death.
Here's a diffrrent way to use a sine wave as an illustration of life and death: If I play a note on a piano, the strings produce a sine wave sound. After a while, the troughs and peaks are less pronounced, until finally, the string's vibration comes to an end, peaks, troughs, and all.
I am very fond of Epicurus' words to Menoeceus: "Death, therefore, the most awful of evils, is nothing to us, seeing that, when we are, death is not come, and, when death is come, we are not." It is part of a longer passage, but this sentence is its heartwood core, to me.
I hope sharing my views on this topic are understood as just that, my views, and not a challenge to anyone's beliefs and views.
There is much on this topic now, I like this Hidden Word, as it shows us our potential.
"Thou art My dominion and My dominion perisheth not; wherefore fearest thou thy perishing? Thou art My light and My light shall never be extinguished; why dost thou dread extinction? Thou art My glory and My glory fadeth not; thou art My robe and My robe shall never be outworn. Abide then in thy love for Me, that thou mayest find Me in the realm of glory."
Bahá’u’lláh, The Hidden Words, Arabic
Jesus the Christ offered the same thing and told us how to achieve that state of being, we must be born again in this life from the flesh into our spiritual potential.
If we do the first death does not overcome.
