Correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that Baha'u'llah is the latest of Abrahamic prophets making the Baha'i Faith the latest of Abrahamic religions.

Wouldn't this sub-forum be more appropriate under Abrahamic Religions versus Modern Religions?

Do people have thoughts/opinions about this?

The post has been relayed to other staff members for consideration.

Baha'i has recently been given it's own slot under World Religions on the homepage, but is still awaiting an introductory essay from Baha'i members.

I always thought Baha'i was a leading interfaith religion. Every temple with its 9 sides and 9 doors representing world faiths.

In the terms of world governments I consider the United States a modern test when compared to the various empires of history.

With the Baha'i revelation being in the past few hundred years I feel it modern in the scope of world religions.

I think the 3 religions are most suitable for the section. Adding it would start a discussion on
Yezidi, Druze, Samaritan and Rastafari inclusion.

With its discussion of the sameness of world faiths and unifying them all, that seems something beyond Abrahamic monotheism.

I like things the way the previous administration chose to place them last century and recommend we leave things the way they are for this century, but that we also revisit this discussion next century.

Baha'i Faith is in line with Abrahamic monotheism, and the Prophet-Founder claims to be the latest in line of Abrahamic prophets.

But sure: understandably it's the discussions within these forums that matter and not so much the categorization.

ReligiousForums.com lists the Baha'i Faith under Abrahamic Religions and this classification makes sense to me, but not really a worry or concern...

I hadn't seen this topic earlier but when I first joined this forum the Baha'i Faith was listed here as Abrahamic.

I did write a small piece in Quora under the topic:

Do Baha’is identify their Faith as Abrahamic?

I would say yes for two reasons…

The first reason:

Abdul-Baha as well as the Guardian Shoghi Effendi have clearly indicated that Baha’u’llah was a descendant of Abraham through Khaturah the third wife of Abraham:

March 24. On this date in 1943, Shoghi Effendi wrote

"Regarding your question concerning the descent of Bahá'u'lláh from Abraham: The Master has stated that Bahá'u'lláh is a descendant of Abraham through a son of his, other than Isaac and Ishmael, from his wife Katurah...."

Lights of Guidance

Besides this, an especial blessing is conferred on some families and some generations. Thus it is an especial blessing that from among the descendants of Abraham should have come all the Prophets of the children of Israel. This is a blessing that God has granted to this descent: to Moses from His father and mother, to Christ from His mother's line; also to Muhammad and the Báb, and to all the Prophets and the Holy Manifestations of Israel. The Blessed Beauty [1] is also a lineal descendant of Abraham, for Abraham had other sons besides Ishmael and Isaac who in those days migrated to the lands of Persia and Afghanistan, and the Blessed Beauty is one of their descendants.”

Some Answered Questions

The Second Reason:

We also as Baha’is see a chain of Covenants from Abraham linking Christ, Muhammad, the Bab and Baha’u’llah:

“His Holiness Abraham, on Him be peace, made a covenant concerning His Holiness Moses and gave the glad-tidings of His coming. His Holiness Moses made a covenant concerning the Promised One, i.e. His Holiness Christ, and announced the good news of His Manifestation to the world. His Holiness Christ made a covenant concerning the Paraclete and gave the tidings of His coming. His Holiness the Prophet Muhammad made a covenant concerning His Holiness the Báb and the Báb was the One promised by Muhammad, for Muhammad gave the tidings of His coming. The Báb made a Covenant concerning the Blessed Beauty of Bahá'u'lláh and gave the glad-tidings of His coming for the Blessed Beauty was the One promised by His Holiness the Báb.”
