15.4 THE TEACHING OF JESUS AND THE OLD WAYS CAN NOT BE MIXED -
"THE NEW CLOTH SEWN ONTO THE OLD"
and
"THE NEW WINE POURED INTO OLD WINESKINS"

(Matthew 9:16-17; Mark 2:21-22; Luke 5:36-39)

Matthew 9:16-17 - (After the question about fasting, Jesus continued ....) "Nobody sews a patch of unshrunken cloth on to an old coat, for the patch will pull away from the coat and the hole will be worse than ever. Nor do people put new wine into old wineskins - otherwise the skins burst, the wine is spilt and the skins are ruined. But they put new wine into new skins and both are preserved."

Mark 2:21-22 - "Nobody," he continued (as in Matthew), "sews a patch of unshrunken cloth on to an old coat. If he does, the new patch tears away from the old and the hole is worse than ever. And nobody puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine bursts the skins, the wine is spilt and the skins are ruined. No, new wine must go into new wineskins."

Luke 5:36-39 - Then he gave them this illustration (again after the question about fasting).

"Nobody tears a piece from a new coat to patch up an old one. If he does, he ruins the new one and the new piece does not match the old.

"Nobody puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins - the wine will be spilt and the skins ruined. No, new wine must be put into new wineskins. Of course, nobody who has been drinking old wine will want the new at once. He is sure to say, 'The old is a good sound wine.'"

so what exactly is ment by all this, in your view? That old ways can not be mixed with the new ways? In terms of modern thinking, we should go about promoting god as he would be understood and grasped in these times? I personally think the Bahai faith is very interesting.

Dear PM

'That old ways can not be mixed with the new ways? In terms of modern thinking, we should go about promoting god as he would be understood and grasped in these times?'

I feel so, which is why there as been many messengers down the ages to speak with people and give guidance on current problems that they face in a language they can understand and hopefully embrace.

We can also look at the past with new eyes and hearts which can bring us greater and new understandings and insights that is appropriate for modern day. Put it this way Christians will never convert or find a listening ear while they call everyone sinners! For me that is the old but also remember what Jesus said 'those that have not sinned amongst you may cast the first stone, he did not judge the condemned he judged those that did the condemning of sin. What is sin? In the original hebrew translation of the words 'as to sin' comes from archery and means to miss the target, like the arrow missing the bullseye. So the insight I gain from this is 'you have missed the point of creation and why you are here'. The word transgression is also used in the bible and in modern day the angelic forces use this word in terms of transgressing the nature laws of the universe. St Jerome talks in one of his letters about why the natural spiritual laws were not included in the bible, the church decided that due to the Egyptians self-harming and killing themselves due to their trangressions of these laws in thought, word and deed it would be better for humanity if they did not know about them. Yet we are no better off by their exclusion from the bible because children still self-harm and commit suicide. I digress apologies.......

To give you an another example some pagans are starting to see and hear Jesus and Mother Mary and this is in total conflict to their current belief system. One of my Reiki students shared with me that instead of thinking of Jesus as he is described in the bible she now thinks of him as a man of the 21st century, dressed in jeans and tee-shirt, going to Glastonbury and spreading the word of unconditional love and compassion at pop and spiritual festivals (although this is not how he is appearing to her) and with this mindset Jesus is an OK guy to her and quite acceptable to join her life and journey.

PS

Now the Pagan Reiki healer as confirmed that Jesus as come into her life, but Jesus has not asked her to become a Christian, go to church or relinguish her belief and connection with nature and the science of being. He accepts her just the way she is and loves her for who she is unconditionally.

A child of the universe that is carrying out good works and spreading the words of love and compassion. And so he is working through her heart centre bringing forth his teachings without the old church or a bible.

Humanity is so diverse and wouldn't it be boring if we were all exactly the same, but yet we can still be one planet, one people, one heart with the will to good in oneness with the source.

Surely any personally validated Faith can be interpreted in any way at all... according to the affective nature and nurture of the individual.

All other considerations based in the traditions and dogmas (and doctrines) of established religions have nothing whatsoever to do with the essence of all Faith... a personally validated spiritual response through an individual's affective nature and nurture. It doesn't necessitate rationality or proofs beyond self, as the individual determines its validity for themselves, within themselves... their heart and soul.

If this is so, and I think it is so, embracing new understandings is patently easy to do, if ONE wishes to do so... and that is surely all that can be said?

Indeed one could go further and say that individuals who ignore, or are blind to, changes, are living in a fool's paradise... perhaps eating lotus leaves?

Well change is as good as a rest they say. But change is also as natural as the seasons and our physical body never stays the same does it but yet if we allow our minds to stand still that is when people can get stuck. I call it getting 'stuck on a buoy' of belief system.

So I agree Blue change is good for us but yet many fear change or feel threatened by it due to us not teaching children how to manage change and loss.
