Why AI Lies and Hallucinates

I listen to a new broadcast on the radio and an employment consultant was saying AI is beginning to impact white collar jobs, all the way to CEO level.

On the programme was a lawyer who said that AI was replacing corporate lawyers, as AI can draft a contract quick as you like ... but he did note you need an 'AI lawyer' (that is now an actual job description) because AI does have the tendency to make stuff up – so while AI will trawl the net and cast you a contract 'just like an expensive lawyer would write', it also put something in there that could lead to, or leave one open to, a damaging lawsuit. 'We all know AI invents' I think the guy said.
Everything can go full-circle.
On BBC radio this morning it was reported that companies of all sizes are now being advised to back up all their procedures, contacts, data and financial records .....on paper. Modern day digital villains are crashing systems, stealing and blackmailing at all levels, even personal.
I haven't started direct debits, internet banking or cloud storage yet which was backward before, but some folks are trying to get back to this position now.
