What do you personally think that Jesus taught and why does it matter now?

Jesus teaching is so important because he setup rules that are sometimes hard to follow, like loye your enemies or bless the ones who mistreat you. Christianity was called the way because of it and because Jesus is the only way to see God in all his glory. It matters today because when you look and read the news then you get a picture of a world that is more and more ruled by darkness instead of light. Our duty is to stand up for justice and truth and that we treat our neighbour like we also want to be treated because of the rule of cause and effect.

I, of course, dissent that Jesus is the only to see G-d in G-d’s glory. The duty to stand up for justice and truth, treating our neighbors in the manner we wish to be treated does not require a belief in Jesus.

You are entitled to your belief. I have no intent to try to disuade you. I just happen to disagree.

Of course I understand why you only think that Jesus was only a Rabbi and not the messiah. There are many heavens because the heavens are shaped like an onion with many layers and cells and to enter the inner core where God resides you have to pass through the entrance, because Jesus is guarding it. The reason why noone can see God in all his glory without believing in Jesus is that God is holy. Sin and God are totally incompatible. A sinner in Gods presence would desintegrate. If you read the torah you know what happened to the people who wanted to catch the ark of covenant and where unclean, they simple fell down dead because the ark of covenant was holy.

If your reply was directed to me, let me be clear. I never said I thought Jesus was a rabbi. Furthermore, if I was not as clear as I should have been, I have no interest in engaging with you to discuss the beliefs you hold that I do not share.

A sane premordial rule which existed in religions before Christianity also. Should be followed by all, irrespective of whether one is Christian or not. Why do you make it sound like it was invented by Jesus?

Then you will wait for 2000 years more for a messiah to return?

Many Messiahs will come in 2000 years. These people claim divinity in 21st Century.
Good that AI 40-Mini overlooked people claiming divinity in India, otherwise the machines would have blown up.

Here are some notable figures and groups with divinity claims in the 21st century:
  • Apollo Quiboloy: The founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ in the Philippines, he asserts he is the "Appointed Son of God".
  • A.J. Miller: As co-founder of Australia's Divine Truth movement, he claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ.
  • Amy Carlson: Known as "Mother God" to her Love Has Won followers, she claimed deity status and that she had lived many past lives as historical figures.
  • Sergey Torop: Known as Vissarion, this Russian figure claims to be "reborn" as the "Word of God" and the returned Jesus Christ.
  • Yang Xiangbin: Called "Lightning Deng" or "the female Christ," followers of the Eastern Lightning movement in China believe she is the returned Jesus.
  • Inri Cristo: This Brazilian guru, born Alvaro Thais, has claimed since 1979 to be the second coming of Jesus.

Already done that....so you saying its all over now?
Yeah, that makes you enlightened. Nothing more to do, unless you desire to change the world.
You are a 'Pacceka Buddha'.
However, life goes on as usual in the impermanent world.
You still have to sweep the floor and fetch water. :)

Intriguing idea that the heavens are like layers of an onion. Where did you get this insight from?

What if I see the floor as good and the water is have as enough...besides, you are not my real mom.
I never claimed to be your mom. I was a Y chromosome sperm. So too were my two brothers.
People used to ask my grandpa if he had some formula for having only male progeny.
But I faltered and broke the family tradition by getting a daughter as my first child.

I see some sperm are thicker than the others, more nebulous, some are in-between. Is that male or female or something else?

I like the Gnostics view, past and present. Believing Jesus taught secret spiritual knowledge, or gnosis, revealing the divine spark within humanity and the way to escape the material world to return to a higher, true God. He provided a path not through faith, but through self-knowledge and spiritual enlightenment to overcome ignorance and materiality.
I tend towards “spiritual mechanics” like a gnostic, but disavow their disdain for the material world. I prefer the “be IN the world but not OF it approach. The not OF it part is gnostic but the IN part means we need to accept the physical situation, perhaps as a mission to bring it all closer to God, make approximations of heaven on earth. To make ourselves and our world more spiritual. The “Way” seems to be “spiritual,” understanding and utilizing interconnectedness.

"Quantum Mechanics", but "to be in the world" is so uncertain. At one time I can be, at another time I won't be. :D

This is not only for Christians, or even for followers of Abrahamic religions. Other people might have opinions about what Jesus taught and why it matters now. For some people, what he taught might be "nothing" because they don't believe that there ever was such a person as the one in the gospels. Then if they want to, they can say why that matters to them.

I'm not asking for proofs, reasons or Bible verses. Just what you personally think about what he taught and why it matters now.

This question came to me while I was thinking about what I might want to post about, if I keep posting here.
I think he was teaching about spirituality, being spiritual. The notion that he was God’s or Spirit’s or The Father’s “only begotten son” just meant he was exceptionally spiritual, as though the “only” “son”. But there may have been other highly spiritual examples and teachers that most of us never heard of, other sons and daughters of The Father. And in terms of potential we are all sons and daughters of God, Spirit, The Father, even though our potential is not as actualized as Jesus Christ’s or other exceptionally spiritual people. I guess I am in the Perineal camp that believes there are spiritual truths common to many spiritual/faith traditions.
And Reza Shaw-Kazemi, author of Paths to Transcendence (book recommended by Thomas) believed that Meister Eckart believed the following things about “spirituality” three Persons (Trinity) are distinct on the outward plane, without this implying mutual exclusion on the inward plane… There is here the application of a principle which plays a role of the utmost importance in Eckart!s perspective…everything pertaining to the spiritual realm is INCLUSIVE and UNITIVE (my caps) by nature…The more spiritual a thing is, the more inclusive and thus universal it is, and the more material a thing is, the more it excludes other things by the very rigidity of its specific contours”

Jesus was trying to teach us about spirituality. As a Rabbi, he used himself as an example, model, MENTOR to the rest of us.

That is where he faltered. He or his follower (Paul, who crafted the story) should have been humble enough not to project him as a model for every one. People have their own models.
