I've been and told and my experience is that balance is the key. Working to balance ourselves within and then taking this and aligning it with the universal energy around us to create balance within and without. My process, the one I was taught, is daily grounding and protection. Meditation. We must resolve the "stuff" within us that creates chaos in our minds so we can leave this behind. Not just dismissing it, but going to the 'root" and healing it. Root meaning when and where it began in our past.

Ignoring thoughts is not the same as resolving them, it is just a form of denial. We must pick up and examine our thoughts in order to identify and resolve what is within. Doing this, over time, as they surface our connection within and without grows stronger and clearer. For me this has been this path.

Off to go do my morning grounding and protection rituals. Consistent practice over time produces results.

Be well, go in the light.

I concur...

In relationships I see this scale....people have traits that may irritate, but other that we need...as long as there is balance (even in perception) we stay on...

This is my form of meditation. Grounding and protection I try to do them every day. thanks brian

MEDITATION TECHNIQUE

Before entering meditation room, visualize the room full of a purple cloudy haze. Sit in the same spot facing north or east. Light a single white candle and one stick of incense. Begin with breathing exercise. Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. Hold tongue to the roof of mouth as you exhale. Each portion of the breath sound take a count of seven. Hold your breath between inhales and exhale for a count of seven also. Inhale-hold-exhale-hold. Do this seven to ten times. While breathing feel yourself relax and sink deeper into relaxation.

Next, visualize and old style large showerhead over your head. Visualize white light slowly pouring forth and covering and filling your body with the white light. Go from head to toes. Next, feel mother earth enter your body through your feet. Slowly feel it move upward filling and mixing with the white light in your body.

Feel yourself sinking deeper into relaxation. Relax and do not focus on any stray thoughts that come to you. Let the thoughts of your day-to-day existence pass from your mind.

Keep a pad and pencil on your meditation chair or floor area. When thoughts or visual images come to you, write down(with the hand you do not normally write with) what these are. Don't attempt to place them or figure them out, just write down your first impressions of them. If you feel afraid of anything that comes, challenge it by saying "Do you come in the white light?" If it does not come in the white light, it will leave.

This should consume about a 1/4 hour to 3/4 hour depending on the individual.

Be well. Go in the light.

Grounding Exercise

Sit in your meditation area and quiet you mind. Slow your breathing. As you inhale, visualize a qi connection from Mother earth rising to connect with the base of your spine. As you exhale, feel this qi circulate within your root chakra. On the next inhale bring the qi connection up to the base of your spine again. On this exhale bring the qi connection up to your sacral chakra and stimulate it. On the next inhale establish the qi connection with your base of your spine and on the exhale carry the qi to the solar plexus chakra. On the next inhale bring the qi to your spine again and on the exhale bring the qi connect up to your heart chakra and stimulate it. On the next inhale bring the qi connection to your base of your spine and on the exhale raise the qi connection to your throat chakra. On the next inhale bring the qi to your base of your spine and on the exhale raise the qi to your third eye chakra and stimulate it. On the next inhale raise the qi to your base of your spine and on the exhale raise the qi to your crown chakra. Now on the last inhale bring the qi to your base of your spine and on the exhale visualize the color teal flowing into all your chakras at the same time. You can work with each individual chakra as many times as you need.

Pah exercise

“Pah” exercise. This exercise is designed to release negative (dragon) energy.

Four steps:
  1. Begin in your meditation area, breathe in through your nostrils and out through your mouth eight times. Use a casual shallow breath.
  2. Breathe in through your mouth and out through your mouth four times. This should be about a ½ breath with full body movement inhaling into the abdomen and feel your shoulders rise as a result of the inhale.
  3. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. The inhale should be a ¾ breath. Before you exhale purse your lips and say the word, “Pah”. When you say this word let the exhaled air explode from your lungs. Do this eight times.
  4. Switch to normal breathing rhythm in the mouth and out the nose to balance and calm yourself.

This exercise is designed to release pent up negative energy. It does work and serves to cleanse your qi. You still need to do grounding work after this exercise, but it will help you release negative energy.

Protection Ritual

I begin with asking for help and protection from the folks I am familiar with. Work with any spirit guides you work with.
Facing North, I call upon spirit guides, ascended masters, the angelic realms, Archangel Michael and the Archangels, Mother earth Father sky, master Confucius, master Li, Master Enoch, the emperor of the golden gate, Master Christ, and you God to guide and protect me this day. (you can include/exclude any spiritual being you would like)
Begin facing North, and bow saying, “I honor your presence, please protect me. Please remove all undesirable entities, situations, and circumstances from my energetic presence.” Bow once again and turn to the East. Repeat prayer and turn to the South. Repeat prayers and turn to the West. Repeat prayer and turn to the North. One final time bow and thank them for their blessings and protection.

How did you come to put them together, and how long have you been doing them?

Started meditating in spring of 1997. Just working to empty my heads, no thoughts of any human stuff to see what came through. Been doing the grounding and protection since 1997, honestly can't remember specifics, but came from guidance to do them. I can tell the difference when I don't and wish I were better at doing them. Getting back in the daily habit now vs after stuff spins out of control. Thanks brian

Taoism had a huge influence on my Celtic Polytheism and helped me to understand my path so much better. The Celtic and Norse myths are all also about balance too but it was the way that Taoism was presented that helped me understand my polytheism better. I recently found out the author CS Lewis who wrote the stories about Narnia was also heavily influenced by understanding the Tao. Now understanding and practicing balance is very important in my path.

Good for you. I had never heard of Taoism in spring 1997. In meditation kept hearing the phrase "balance and harmony " in my head. One day 2-1/2 hours from home making sales calls after lunch I walked into a bookstore and in the religion/philosophy section was a black book with red lettering, "the book of balance and harmony " translated by Thomas Cleary on the shelf. My introduction. Strong past life connection to it. Brian

True enough, but paradoxically, sometimes examining thoughts can go around and around, and people can get so caught up in it they then need to be told to set the thoughts aside and focus on something else.

Light:

Not in my experience. The human brain based half of us is conditioned to avoid things/experiences that hurt us or don't feel good. It will work to avoid these things. Whatever the universe brings us; it is for a reason, even if we don't understand the why.

In my experience, developing within ourselves, the ability and willingness to "go there" always takes us through to a place that is better for us. Trick is we have to know this so we are more willing to "go there." Once we know what's on the other side is a good feeling it makes it easier to do this, we are literally reconditioning ourselves to trust the process.

When we have these recurring thoughts we can't seem to break through, it is always helpful to sit in meditation and ask to be shown the why. We can push them from our mind, but they are still there within us, just back in the subconscious.

I think it's like Laotzu said, go to the root. By this I believe he meant where things started within us, with any given issue. Find it trace it back to where it began within us. Mao Shan Taoists speak of the 'embryonic knots.' I have always interpreted this of the things we bring with us into this lifetime.

Be well.

Brian
