All paths lead to God?

In the Gita, in plain and simple language, it is stated that Krishna is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There is none equal to or greater than Him.
The real meaning is the brash and stark and sudden and sobering slap in the face by a genuine Hindu Swami Guru ---who holds up a document and says NO OTHER PLACE IN HISTORY HAVE SEEN GOD SPEAKING FACE TO FACE ---YET HE IS DENIED.

It is the most amazing thing!

Yudhisthira is on the right circa 3200 BCE
40482436_2145880168998900_676215175401121979_n.jpg

Yamaraja asked:
"Who is truly happy? What is the greatest wonder? What is the path? And what is the news"?

Whereupon Yudhishthira replied, "He who has no debts is truly happy. Day after day countless people die. Yet the living wish to live forever. O Lord, what can be a greater wonder? Argument leads to no certain conclusion, the Srutis are different from one another; there is not even one Rishi whose opinion can be accepted by all. The truth about Dharma and duty is hid in the cave of our hearts, therefore that alone is the path along which the great have trod. This world full of ignorance is like a pan. The sun is fire, the days and nights are fuel. The months and the seasons constitute the wooden ladle. Time is the cook that is cooking all creatures in that pan (with such aids). This is the news".

Yamaraja asked: What is the most wonderful thing?

Yudhisthira: The most amazing thing is that even though every day one sees countless living entities dying, he still acts and thinks as if he will live forever.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

When Yudhisthira Maharaj was asked, "What is the most wonderful thing in the world?"

He replied, "the most wonderful thing is that every day ,every moment,
people are dying, and yet everyone thinks that death will not come for him."
Every minute and every second we experience that living entities are going
to the temple of death. Men,insects, animals, birds everyone is going.

This world, therefore, is called mrtyuloka-the planet of death.
Yet everyone is thinking ,"somehow or other I,ll live."
Everyone is subject to death, yet no one takes it seriously.
This is illusion. Thinking we will live forever , we go on doing whatever we like,
feeling that we will never be held responsible. This is very risky life and it is the densest part of illusion.
We should become very serious and understand that death is waiting.
In this world death is the most certain thing ; no one can avoid it when
death will come ,no longer will our puffed-up philosophy or advanced degree help us.
At that time our stout and strong body and our intelligence which don't care
for anything are vanquished.

At that time the fragmental portion (jivatma)
comes under the dictation of material nature ,and prakrti (nature) gives us
the type of body for which we are fit. If we want to take this risk ,
we can avoid Krishna; if we don't want to take it , Krishna will come to help us.

Srimad-Bhagavatam 7.2.57 purport:
Yamaraja once asked Maharaja Yudhisthira, “What is the most wonderful thing within this world?” Maharaja Yudhisthira replied (Mahabharata, Vana-parva 313.116):
Hundreds and thousands of living entities meet death at every moment, but a foolish living being nonetheless thinks himself deathless and does not prepare for death. This is the most wonderful thing in this world. Everyone has to die because everyone is fully under the control of material nature, yet everyone thinks that he is independent, that whatever he likes he can do, that he will never meet death but live forever, and so on. So-called scientists are making various plans by which living entities in the future can live forever, but while they are thus pursuing such scientific knowledge, Yamaraja, in due course of time, will take them away from their business of so-called research.

When it comes to Indian mythology
Mythology
1830, from French mythe (1818) and directly from Modern Latin mythus, from Greek mythos"speech, thought, word, discourse, conversation; story, saga, tale, myth, anything delivered by word of mouth," a word of unknown origin. Beekes finds it "quite possibly Pre-Greek."

IT IS NOT A SANSKRIT WORD.

So it does not apply. The so-called use of the word is by colonialists and conquering marauders. DYK that the word for India in India, is Bharata.

The oldest Epic book on the Planet Earth is the "MahaBharata" wherein one chapter is known as the Bhagavad-gita [lit. Song of God].

So while many are preserving the lost lore of the Maya, Inca, Aztec, American Native Indian and the Amazon Indian and the Egyptian and the Persian and the Greeks ...it is not the case with India. In India the Aryan culture has never gone away.

PS: Aryan is a Sanskrit word. And btw Arabic numerals are from Sanskrit too. Buddha grew up spoking Sanskrit. Alexander the Great stopped his conquests at the western border of India [now known as Afganastan]. Oh and Columbus want so much to make a direct path to India. The crown Jewel of the British empire was India. Shiolin Temple Kung-fu came from India. And lastly the two words composing the term "Indo-European" ---both words are derived from Sanskrit. Namaste.

Science marches on
Ever since!

And ever since ...the cost(s) of living gets more expensive....for every new graduating class.

If you can;'t beat them, boy...y'all better join them.

I can just see you in Berlin in 1939 goose-stepping past me: "C'mon Bhaktajan, go along, go along..."

I can just see you in Berlin in 1939 goose-stepping past me: "C'mon Bhaktajan, go along, go along..."

Funny coincidence; I am in Berlin, and we rally at what seems like weekly intervals to keep the descendants of the goose-stepping types from parading through town and spewing their bigoted rhetoric. It is not science they preach, I can tell you that! (Not the Song of the Lord either).

I believe it was politicians declaring measels defeated, not scientists. They may use scientific findings to further their cause, or religious ideals, or patriotic ones... does not make them scientists, priests, or patriots.

Enough of a nod at Godwin's Law?

20 questions to Nihilistic Narcissistic Discorder, or Entropy?

Your post reminds me of a funny story.

One day two monks were in a garden arguing subjectivity versus objectivity. The Zen master hearing them arguing approached the two students. The Zen master asked, "that rock over there, does that exist inside your head or outside your head?". One of the monks looked up at the Zen master and replied, "Well, our religious bible tells us that all truth is subjective so that rock only exists inside my head." At which point the Zen master replies, "Then it must be pretty heavy all day walking around with that rock in your head!"

Sanskrit is just another rock.

Sanskrit is just another rock.
The Zen Story was from a Sanskrit written story. Zen "religious bible(s)" are written in Sanskrit. Zen "Stories" are known as "Sutras" [yes another Sanskrit word]

In GB Shaws book Pygmalian which was turned into a Musical named "My fair lady" ---Professor Higgins makes a bet that he can pass-off the Street peddler girl as Highly educated debutante. Professor Higgins introduces himself to the Ms. Doolittle as a Professor of linguistics and a scholar of Sanskrit.

Sanskrit is the mother Tongue of the Indo-European family of languages.

Before Gutenberg's printing press reading the Bible was very very rare.

Nerd mode on: This is not quite correct. It is, along with Avestan, the oldest recorded IE language, but it too is a descendant of a common proto IE language, one among siblings, but not the mother.

Indo-Europa = a compound word.

Both are Sanskrit words.

Indo = a Sanskrit word

Europa = a Sanskrit word

Sure, but Sanskrit did not appear fully formed. It developed out of a parent language, which it shares with other descendants of that parent language. This is also where most of the vocabulary is from, in one form or another.

Or do you think it would be persuasive to claim Sanskrit is a descendant of Latin, because the Sanskrit Agni is so similar to Latin IGNIS? No, it's becsuse both come from the same source.

Hello Little Bear, welcome to the forum!

I would say that these similarities across some of the traditions exist because they express something deeply human, common to us all. So these paths you mentioned lead to humanity, rather than to God, in my understanding.

Hello, and thank you

Or they are similar because they are the highest teaching on finding the truth. There is a secret in man that has been found over and over by certain men throughout history... Time fades it. Culture adorns it. Language confuses it, and dust/rust obscures it.

These men are not talking about a fictitious light... but the antithesis of the conditioned darkness that the psychic heart grasps onto in its self imposed prison. The light they are discussing is the unconditioned light that frees the heart, because it is unable to be grasped. Siddatha called it Nibbana.

It is The Light that made the night into day when The Buddha awakened, blazoned as Christ was Transfigured, and terrified the Israelites as Moses was on top of the mountain.

A dark, dusty, veiled Mirror of the Heart cannot reflect the truth. Grab the harness and stop the stampede of the senses.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you are saying, but with how you are arguing it. That't a lot of assumptions, that the Buddha and Jesus were going on about the same thing, or that even if they were expressing a common experience, that this is what religions would call God.

As for the stampede if the senses... again, I don't disagree that a well-trained mind has abilities which are hard to attain while scatterbrained. But there's nothing wrong with the senses.

And when science gets new information it updates! How old are your books?
As ever, a gentle reminder for our readers that the science v religion thing is a fallacy.

I once read the Sanskrit word for God was gender neutral. I am not an expert on Sanskrit and I was never able to confirm if this is the case. Maybe you have some link you can provide with insights int he Sanskrit language and the word for God.
