New boards: taking ideas

What about one's own religious acts?

A lot of contributions here have to do with thoughts already put in wiring by others usually of some past time. What I call talking from rote. Not that I am not also in the habit.

What I would like to read is what a typical religious person does 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365.25 days a year, and his outlook for the remainder of his lifetime.

Should I start with myself?

But I have been inured not to talk about myself.

Well, maybe that's the reason why we don't have any thread about anyone talking about himself and his religiouis life and acts.

You have got to be a founder of a religion, actually a reformer of one or a renovator of an extant one or an innovator to talk about yourself. Consider Jesus Christ, Buddha, Mahammad. But if these guys come back they would be terribly surprised to read about themselves and maybe terribly dismayed.

I might find such talks though in the messages of posters here. then it would educational to compare my own religious life and acts with theirs.

The current layout of boards for this community reflects the structure of the main site itself - but I'm becoming increasingly aware that this is possibly quite limiting.

So I'm taking suggestions on what people would like to see around here.

I think there is room to expand into other areas, and I'm happy to restructure the forum to suit. I have a couple of ideas of my own, but they've not yet set into anything definite. So feel free to make your own sugestions. :)

From Louis...
Excellent idea !
When I address ANY question to a believer, all I want is
INFORMATION - something expressed in clear, blunt,
technical language. But it seems they always reply in
language that is poetic, figurative, or metaphorical.
I know they "mean well" - I don't doubt their honesty
or sincerity.
It's just such a reply doesn't CLEAR UP anything for me.

It's just that such a reply doesn't CLEAR UP anything for me.
What I propose is a place for CLEAR TALK.
For example :
When people ask me "What do you think happens when
we die ?", I reply "Our bodies break down into their
constituent elements and we are re-absorbed back into
the eco-system."
They answer "We knew that ! We meant what happens
to our minds - our souls ? "
And I answer "Most likely you will no longer exist - in which case, you won't be around to care WHAT happens. "
And they RECOIL ! - both from me and from confronting
that possibility !
But all I wanted to do was CLEAR things up - spell out
just what we do know about death and the fact we all
live with the knowledge it WILL someday happen.
But not TODAY ! That's the only good thing about it -
I'm not dead RIGHT NOW - HOORAY for right now !!!
