2 Peter 2:20
20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.
NIV

But what of this one clearly states they escaped corruption by knowing the Lord, then went back into corruption.

I think it means some people fail, even when they have the best from the beginning. But it doesn't mean (I believe), that they are lost for ever.

what I think you are not understanding is that once you accept Christ as your savior you receive Gods seal which is the baptism of the Holy Spirit.. grieving the Spirit is not the same as rejection of the Spirit because if you have never had the Spirit how could you grieve His absence. Grieving the Spirit is simply the continual refusal to listen to His voice in your life.. If you have been born again you know that He speaks to you. Thats why prayer is very important to believers.. it keeps our spiritual muscles intact. Its the food for our souls.. imagine not eating and starvation setting in... thats what happens when we dont pray.. our souls thirst for God.. the Spirit is our link with the Father and Jesus Christ.

You are wondering if we can lose our salvation and do you know that I struggled with that same thing? My pastor once said that if you have doubts of your salvation then there are issues you need to work out with God. That means prayer.. My biggest suggestion would be serious prayer.. bible study and a dose of Daniels fasting.. :) Dont ask a forum ask the boss Himself...

My pastor also said that God wants and expects us to ask questions of Him.. thats why He gave us brains to think with. All the many questions I have had I eventually found the answers to.. if He didnt show me the answer right away He eventually showed them to me in His time.

Might I also add that doubts fear guilt and such are not of God...

Hi luna.. its good to be back.. I needed a bit of a break for fortification. Too much time on this forum without fortification can be a bit dangerous :)

*shrug* sorry if you didnt like my answer... My impatience sometimes comes out when I see those seriously seeking answers to questions come to places like this for those answers when the only one who can answer those questions is right there wanting to be asked.. That goes for those who know God and believe the bible...

I believe that there are other influences here that arent of God that make it dangerous to those seeking truth and I believe that its part of the reason I post here...:)

Actually that is a valid point. Sometimes we know we have the key, and we lose it or throw it away. So we end up being more miserable than before. I imagine that is a tiny fraction of how Lucifer feels. Humans on the other hand, have the option of turning back to God, and being accepted by Him.

I also suspect the "added misery" is due to the shame that we heap upon ourselves due to knowing we had it made and threw it all away, in stupidity, and must start again. I also suspect we lose what heavenly "riches" we may have originally stored up.

But then, I'd much rather be a poor man in heaven than a rich man in hell...
