Comfort Food

Comfort foods for me would have to be:
  • Almost anything that is chocolate and moist, especially cookies with marzipan bits baked in.
  • And roast chicken, that is the tougher flesh just below the crispy skin - really lovely.
i Know there are more but i just can't remember... ^_^

Hi Mason,

Those sound like great cookies. I make some that are called "Terrible Cookies" that are loaded with chocolate and nuts and coconut and butter. I don't know if they are called Terrible because they are Terribly good, terrible for the diet, or if it is a reverse marketing ploy. :)

Freshly baked bread, Navajo fry bread with real maple syrup, coco-almond meringue cookies (taste like Almond Joy candy bar, but a heck of a lot healthier), potatoes, rice, pasta, raspberry honey, most fruit, most vegetables, oatmeal...

I had better stop before I start raiding my pantry.

Hi Phyllis, I missed your post before. I detect a carbo trend there. :) I fully expected to see chocolate topping your list as well after that triple chocolate recipie you recently posted.

How about waffles, the real home-made kind, with lots of strawberries and whipped cream. Mmmmm.

I have a real appetite for tomato soup with slices of bread covered with peanut butter - then DUNK strips of the bread and peanut butter in the soup.

I've never heard of this combination before. I like tomato soup, and I like peanut butter on bread, but to put it together, I just don't know...but for some strange reason my mother always served peanut butter sandwiches when she makes macaroni and cheese, so now I do sometimes, a combination my husband just can't figure out.

It would have to be a d!mn good chocolate (I've had the misfortune of tasting some chocolate that turn you off of chocolate for the rest of your life.) My Ukrainian friend was the one who "saved" chocolate by giving me some Russian chocolate, and that stuff is d!mn good imho. Anyway, the meringues have a decent chocolate taste (they contain cocoa and are dusted with cocoa.)

Anyway, waffles with sliced fresh peaches and raspberry sauce, perhaps a sprinkle of vanilla sugar (not the fake stuff, either!) Or a scoop of vanilla ice cream instead of the vanilla sugar.:D

About the carb trend, I'm not much into meat anymore (never really was, according to my brother.) Now, my friend Tyler, place a slice of rather unadorned rare meat (preferably a slab instead of a mere slice), then quickly move your fingers out of the way. Otherwise, it's not pretty. :p

bacon! (in your soup that is)

the flavor of bacon mixes well with just about everything.
salad, beans, soup, roast, eggs, not sure about peanut butter, but it is good on a grilled cheese with tomato.

has anyone ever had NO BAKE COOKIES?
with oatmeal, peanut butter, cocoa & you boil them on the stove like candy & they set firm or soft whichever you prefer by the boiling time.

In late summer when the tomatoes are just ripe nothing beats a BLT on sourdough bread and a tall glass of iced tea.

Never had those no bake cookies before, at least not to my knowledge. They sound good but I am not very good at making candy, I always burn it.

cheers,

Sliced ripe tomatoes, slices of fresh mozzarella cheese, good quality extra virgin olive oil, salt, pepper and finely shredded (or whatever the correct term is) fresh basil. Alternate the slices of tomato with the mozzarella, then drizzle the oil over it. Sprinkle with the salt, pepper and basil. :D

The iced tea would go well with this salad.

Phyllis, that is heaven. I also use a dash of balsimic vinegar, not to overdo it though. And put it on little toasted rounds of fresh garlic bread or, again, sourdough. I grow basil just for this one.

Okay, luna and Phyllis, what are you doing in April? Time, place, name it---:)

Okay, maybe that would ruin everything, but somehow I know it wouldn't.

Must have lemons with the iced tea--well, okay, I am not that spoiled.

Okay, I am just writing because I think you both rock, and I am hungry.

Love You,
InLove;)

Hey InLove,

Well, hopefully doing some Spring skiing in the Rockies, but who knows... :)

I have never been to Texas--what kind of soul food do they have there (besides chili--the hotter the better!)?

My comfort food ? Cakes. Especially with chocolate and a fruits mix. Then chinese food and shish tawook plate. Spinach and salad soup.

I don't like snacks, cookies and candies.

I do my best to eat healthy food with lots of vegetables and fruits, but when I'm tired or depressed those foods do miracles. :)

*a cute furry :kitty: sniffs the air, turns her head in alexa's direction,, silently mouths the :kitty: version of "alexa!", then...

*pounce*

Returning to the actual subject, alexa, what is shish tawook?

Most authentic Asian food is mostly vegetables with meat/seafood/poultry used more as a "flavoring agent" instead of being the other way around, as is popular in American-style meals.

You'll find it in lebanese restaraunts. I don't know how exactly they prepare the plate, but as I could see, you need charcoal grilled cubes of marinated chicken breast, letuce, tomato, onion in "rondelle", and tabouli, rice and a pita.

I like to change restauants: chinese, greek, lebenese, italien, etc when I'm bored of all the ordinary plates.

*two furry cats (Atchoum and Wilson) look curiously to the little kitty and say hello in cat language, of course :meow little kitty*

Hi, Y'all--

For luna--actually, "hotter" is not necessarily better. It is the quality of "hotness", maybe the flavor of it, that is precious. But it is difficult to get the natives here to agree--everyone has a different perspective (not only about who is a "native", but also about the food!) Ummm...did I answer the question?:D

Did someone mention Lebanese???? What say ye about lentil soup and toasted pita with a yogurt dip?? And tabouli with lemon and garlic and tomato and parsley and onion and.....ummm....toasted pita with a yogurt dip??

And last but not least (I say this because I do not know how to "speel" the French for "the piece of least resistance" (LOL:D ) Goat Cheese! Yummy, yummy, yummy--love in my tummy!

Before anyone thinks of saying anything mean about this--my daddy was raised on goat "dairy" products, and they are lovely and full of all kinds of nutrients. And no, I have never tasted cabrito...had plenty of chances, just no desire.

Anyone ever had goat cheese wrapped in grape leaves marinated in olive oil and wine and garlic and lemon? With olives? Oh, my, oh, my....

Well, I believe that just about says enough....

G'nite--
InPeace,
InLove:)

Yummy, yummy, yummy !!! :D I have my favorite Lebanese restaurant, well better said, my favorite lebanese cooker. I eat there at least once a week. ;)

Nope, but seems a good idea for an appetizer. My sister loves goat cheese, so I'll give her a hint how to prepare it next time. Thanks.:)
