Jesus told “first will be last & last will be first”

The people who are treated as great devotees and scholars by their sacrifice of words and feelings and by their dramatic dress of devotion, in the eyes of world stand in the first position but such people are pushed to the last position by the Lord. The people who do not express their love in words and mind and do not expose themselves with dramatic dress of devotion and those who sacrifice practically stand in the last position in the eyes of the world. But the Lord will push such people to the first position. A gravel stone covered by a glittering paper and a diamond covered by the dust are given first and last positions by the world. But the Lord reverses these positions.

(Matthew 20:16) In this way the last ones will be first, and the first ones last.”

(Mark 10:31) However, many that are first will be last, and the last first.”

(Luke 13:30) And, look! there are those last who will be first, and there are those first who will be last.”

things are not always how we think ,

Hi -c-

Yes anyone, read this wiki entry through and then tell us what you believe this phenomenon to mean in western cultures. It may have arisen early in Indian and Chinese cultures also since that is where alchemy began 4-5,000 years ago.

That all still doesn't explain why some of the earliest Christian sects used the symbol on grave markers. One could interpret the symbol as one of resurrection, or rebirth, or even reincarnation if I'm not mistaken.

Opinions anyone ?

Oh my gosh, flow,

It's all there... it was 3am uk time and I just could not get my head round spelling the 'borus word, though yes....the word. And there it is, all of it on Wiki, and it seems you can spell it any way you wish. I remember the first post I ever made on CR was about the Ouroborus :p to Pseudonymous...... "just an ouroborus day" and ...... well I had one yesterday too. So it was. And it all makes perfect sense, though I can't quite dare put it to words ....... yet, 'cept there's a man called Dylan singing "The Times They Are A Changing" through the wind chimes hanging in my garden buddha bar.

Disney calls it "the circle of life" but I bet you'll do better than that once you put your words around the concept. Sweet dreams.

That interpretation struck me as wrong. A hypocrite or a liar convicts himself with his own words, whereas a parent demonstrates a fair degree of love in his or her words. So either way you have convicted yourself by your own words. While a loving parent does use words, a truly hateful enemy or rival competing business often does NOT exchange words. So, maybe you will not be last by the deed rather than the accuracy of these words; albeit... not per your words.

I stumbled here by the title but I was wondering if this similar symbol wouldn't be more appropriate on a grave marker?!: Google: Recycle Symbol.

yes i agree , those who were given it first are nolonger used by God ,but those who are thought of as nothing are being used by God. infact the first ones think the last ones are rubbish, but they are mistaken. because the last ones have

the honor of serving as anointed ambassadors of God’s heavenly Kingdom. yes, things are not always as it seems .

Sounds like someone should be very clear on what first and last and last and first refer to. I'm not seeing that clarity here.

Ciel I don't know, you tell me. You envisioned that image and I do appreciate it but what does the image mean to you? Was Jesus first or last, being last or first?

I'm not going to gamble guessing God's will... I say lets ask him first, and willingly serve it to the last. I am of the impression a person should be a profitable servant, whereas the unprofitable servant is a slave. How to avoid being the slave? Eat and learn what is worth serving. So I think a person should be clear on what it means to eat, what it means to serve, and what is profit. Jesus looks to me like a profitable servant. But there are many others too.

I see something twisted when speaking words is viewed as dressing up the outside of a rock. To the contrary the words help reveal what is within the rock. It is true that a person might paint the outside to make it look pretty, but a diamond is just another really hard rock. I think a person does have to get past worshipping rocks. I'd hate to be carving the grave stone for a living... even if it were diamond.

Hi Cyberpi,
In my understanding the ouroborus in the most simple of terms is to say it is the completion of a cycle, the point of change where effect has become entropy upon the cause.
Jesus first or last, or last and first you say....... well in that context I cant deduct any sense, heads nor tails.

Namaste Flow,

I embrace the concept of the eternal...right here and right now.

Contemplating 'as above so below'. And our discussion in another thread on oneness and not knowing oneness, like a dog chasing its tail, does the dragon/snake know it is eating itself.

The Meaning: It is true that the Jews, God’s chosen people, are still waiting for their Messiah. However, not recognizing their own Messiah is part of God’s plan (Romans 11:25-27) that allows everyone else be saved (Joel 2:32; Romans 10:13). The Bible clearly states that “those who are first will be last” (Matthew 19:30 and 20:16, Mark 10:31, and Luke 13:30). The Jews were the first of God’s people, but they are kept unaware of their own Messiah until everyone on the earth hears about Jesus Christ. This is good news, since everyone gets a chance to accept the Messiah as their Savior and go to heaven. Once that happens, the remaining followers of Judaism will realize that Jesus was the Messiah. At that time, Jesus will return to the earth, bringing those who accept Him as their Savior to heaven. Those who do not accept Him will face God in judgment and be cast into the lake of fire (hell).

“first will be last & last will be first”

Right now, it is the loud, obnoxious, and ruthless people who get ahead in life, and the mild, forgiving, and compassionate people who do not. But the day will come when this is reversed.

So, what is the lesson to learn from this allegory? You explained the allegory but you missed what we are supposed to learn from this. Even the sound of the bell tells us better what it has sounded for.
