peace be upon you all...
i recently stumbled upon something while researching the religion of islam. i saw this verse in B'ereishith (genesis) in the Tanach and it goes like this:
18. And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael will live before You!"
19. And God said, "Indeed, your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you shall name him Isaac, and I will establish My covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.
20. And regarding Ishmael, I have heard you; behold I have blessed him, and I will make him fruitful, and I will multiply him exceedingly; he will beget twelve princes, and I will make him into a great nation.
21. But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this time next year."
from what i understand is that God has established the covenant with Isaac's descendants. aren't the muslims descendants of Ishmael? on top of that, we have the scenario where Abraham was going to sacrifice Isaac, but i read somewhere that in the quran, Isaac was replaced with Ishmael. is this true? i don't have a copy of the quran to look this up or yet if i did have one, i wouldn't even know where to start (though reading the quran is on my "to-do" list! sorry...)
i also have been reading articles that state that the dome of the rock was actually built right where the jewish temples were built. is this a coincidence? is it me or do Ishmael's descendents seem to want the Covenant that God established with Isaac to be theirs, instead of the Hebrews?
i have also read a certain conspiracy theory where roman catholicism is responsible for the creation of islam. is this true? does anyone know anything about this? i would really appreciate some first hand knowledge into this. i would rather have an actual human being give me a fresh response to the question than read some old abandoned article on the 'net.
i know that i shouldn't believe everything i read, but please be patient with me. i am still learning. sorry, if i come off as "blunt", but this has really been bothering me lately. as i mentioned in other posts, i just want to understand the world i live in. i want to know why we are all fighting one another. i want to know the difference between the narrow path and the broad path. thanks for reading and may God have mercy on us all...
