Hi All, I couldn't find another thread where the sole purpose was to share Bible quotes we find particularly beautiful, uplifting, or meaningful in our lives, so I decided to start one.

I'm hoping that this thread will be used for fellowship rather than preaching at one another so here are just a couple of suggestions. Keep the quotes short, please give the book, chapter and verse, please tell which translation you are using, and comment if you wish on why you like the quote.

I put this in the Christianity forum because things posted in general monothesim tend to get overlooked a lot. However, anyone who has a favorite Bible passage is welcome to post it here. Oh, one last suggestion (sorry for the micromanaging), please do not criticize/debate other people's quotes or stories. Oh, one more last thing, no need to limit yourself to just one post here. :)

cheers,
lunamoth

28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11, NIV)

Well, this is one that comes to me often during hectic days. :)

cheers,

Jesus quoted in John 13: 34:

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another (NIV).

In Peace,

Blessed is the man who endureth temptation for when he is tried he shall the recieve the crown of life which the Lord hath promised to those who love Him.

reciting from memory & from the book of James, verse 12 i think, not sure what chapter & in the KJV.
that is one of my favorites.

Hi Luna, nice idea.:)

And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom ,which shall never be destroyed.and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever..Daniel 2;44..........this is my most favourite scripture because the whole theme of the bible from Genesis to revelation is about the vindicating of Jehovahs universal sovreinty and it is the only way that peace will come to the earth ,and it will come about through this heavenly kingdom goverment ...with Gods son Jesus christ as the king of this kingdom.this scripture is taken from an old bible thats been in the family for some years i think it is the KJB as it says in the front by his majestys special command

Psalm 83;18...KJB That men may know that thou, whose name is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth..........this is another favourite in line with my last post

I always say Ephesians 6:10-18.

Specifically Ephesians 6:12-13 (NIV)...

10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.

They are not magical words, but indeed words of truth. They do not discourage me to a stand still but to continue to move in faith and truth whatever my endeavor may be - In peace and in God's will.

Great contributions everyone. Thank you, and keep 'em coming. :)

Here's another of my favorites:

6 "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:
to loose the chains of injustice
and untie the cords of the yoke,
to set the oppressed free
and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry
and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—
when you see the naked, to clothe him,
and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,
and your healing will quickly appear;
then your righteousness [a] will go before you,
and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. (Isaiah 58 (NIV)

I have lots!!

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

I use this one when I am in a dark place and it goes along with these two.

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me

2 Cor 12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Thanks for this thread luna :)

I have one.

"There are three things that will endure - faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love." 1 Corintians 13:13

i have one

27:1The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
27:2When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
27:3Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
27:4One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple.
27:5For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
27:6And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

the young peoples choir at church ROCKS the house down to this Psalm. the Lord always moves when we sing praises to Him, looking to that blessed HOPE.

Romans 5;12 this scripture for me, answers the age old question ,why do we grow old and die?....wherefore,as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin,and so death, passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.....yes the first man Adam passed death on to us all....ahhh so thats the answer now i know why we grow old and die

Proverbs 15:17 - Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

Proverbs 22:11 - He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.

James 1:4 - But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Exodus 6;3 KJV And i appeared unto Abraham, unto Issac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was i not known to them....

"In Him we live and move and have our being"
Acts 17:28

and the Hymn from Colossians
(believed to be the first record of Christian hymn):

"Giving thanks to God the Father,
who hath made us worthy to be partakers
of the lot of the saints in light:

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness
and hath translated us into the kingdom of the Son of his love,

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the remission of sins:

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

For in him were all things created in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominations,
or principalities, or powers.
All things were created by him and in him.

And he is before all: and by him all things consist.

And he is the head of the body, the church:
who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in all things he may hold the primacy:

Because in him,
it hath well pleased the Father that all fulness should dwell:

And through him to reconcile all things unto himself,
making peace through the blood of his cross,
both as to the things that are on earth and the things that are in heaven."
Colossians 1:12-20

This is the one I carry on my keychain--

"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. --Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah 26;4 KJV Trust ye in the Lord for ever for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strengh.

This one is not from the Bible, but I hope you won't mind if I post it here. We could also start another thread like that in the Eastern Religions section called Daily Wisdom Sayings.

The fundamental goodness of human nature, like the mystery of the Trinity, Grace, and the Incarnation, is an essential element of Christian faith. This basic core of goodness is capable of unlimited development; indeed, of becoming transformed into Christ and deified. (from Open Mind Open Heart by Thomas Keating, a Cistercian priest, monk, and abbot)
