Baha'i
People are in need of support and prayers as a result of the recent cyclone that hit Bangladesh.
This is from a Baha'i friend of mine named Kashef in Bangladesh:
Its a sad tale my friend: Thousands dead, millions homeless ... millions deseased and about to die due to lack of shelter, medicine, grief of loosing loved ones ... etc.
People come...give a sack of salt or rice... maybe a few hundred tk (that would be about 10 to 20 dollars). And this is for the lucky ones.
There are others who dont get anything but assurances.
Most of these people have lost alot. Actually everything.... now if looking back they become indulged in pain and a feel of being abused by the privileged world (which includes the rich Bangladeshis too), the people in power, the weather etc... its understandable.
Whenever I see these people....I feel that they need respect and love. True Love. These are the things which are missing. The privileged and the civilized can at best sympathies or contribute financially or perhaps by prayers of mercy for these people (which ofcourse sometimes makes these privilaged feel releaved)... but very few really accept and hug them with true love... an eye which considers them as a family member....as a person with potential....someone who is not a burden or disabled, but a gift and able!... it is a rare way of being looked at for them. The love that we often are able to muster at the most of our strength is perhaps not enough for these hearts which have never come across the true shower of love...and its various energies which have been released by the Sun of Truth...but often unrealised by people of every definition whatsoever!
Us Baha'is are also trying to practice virtues... and perhaps that is one of the main reasons why we have come into the faith (the doctrines come so far after that). Let us try to love and adore and DREAM about them as wonderful people, people who have something as precious as innocence and true love to offer us! ... What we give them is nothing but what is theirs.....what they can give is eternal and universal... the warmth of kindness and simplicity....the grace of love.
