Anyone else caught this movie yet. In regards to the Taliban it reflects the "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" quote. Indicates the similar problems found in the Church and Gov't when folks think they are above the law.

Lot of other stuff going on in the movie as well, all quite compelling.

An excellent book also. Lots of insights into what a good thing the Afghan culture was before it was terminally disrupted with continuous warfare.

Happy New Year Flow and Mrs. Calabash--wherever you are! (any members of the coral remember Jimmy?)

One should have a party, rent Kite Runner and Charlie Wilson's War in the same evening and watch them both....would be great discussion.
 
Amazing Film. The character of Hassan as a young kid,
and the kid playing the role... just made the movie
into something incredible. awesome performance...
heartbreaking actually...

By the way, check out Turtles Can Fly
Children of Heaven is also pretty good.
But Turtles is a must watch. Its on par
with Kite Runner IMO.


p.s. Charlie Wilson's War was funny, but completely
disconnected from reality as far as actual history
is concerned...

CW's war...while had a lot of artistic license had the essence of truth...US funds, arms, trains insurgents against Russians, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, and then once the Russians are chased out doesn't fund rebuilding schools and the country and leaves a void that the Taliban fills and Kite Runner takes over.

yea, so basically the only parts in Charlie Wilson's War
which have any real relevance, are the parts without Charlie Wilson (lol)
